Randwick Trials - Tuesday, October 26

Randwick run its turf trials on a Soft 7 track and Alex Marsh has taken a look at all of the heats.

Notable Heat

Heat Four - Open Trial (1038m). Time: 1:02:94.

At around six lengths faster than the next slickest heat over this trip on the morning, the listed placed Hightail (first) took out the honors in his second trial this preparation.

He settled in the box-seat under Hugh Bowman and was pushed out to score from Splintex (second) after finding a gap late with the Mark Newnham trained colt clearly the better worker of the two.

By Snitzel and out of a half sister to a group winner in Hips Don't Lie, he won two of three starts in his first racing preparation and has come on further from his other solid public showing on November 12.

Terminology (fifth) wasn't there to be knocked around after taking up the running initially whilst the other Waterhouse & Bott runner Tepario (fourth) responded when asked and her work was pleasing as a provincial maiden winner in a strong field.

Fastest Heats

Heat Twelve - Open Trial (735m). Time: 43:26.

She isn't short on early toe is the Bjorn Baker trained Rosina Kojonup (first) who headed up this field and remained in the middle of the track throughout.

A stylish winner from her first two attempts last time in before a fifth placed Gosford Guineas finish late last year, she held off Ljunberg (second) who was arriving late.

The group winning mare Irithea (third) responded to chase before being eased off in the last fifty meters. She generally does trial strongly and this was her first outing since failing in the Tatts Tiara.

Goddodin (fourth) held ground on the inside under her own steam whilst Monte Ditto (fifth) who hasn't raced in twelve months, was going through her work comfortably off the leading pack.

Heat Fifteen - Class1/Maiden Trial (735m). Time 43:91.

Edison (first) held his inside position and was able to grind away for a victory here following some promising signs last campaign which culminated in a big drop in class to score at Hawkesbury on October 26.

From a strong NZ middle distance/staying family being out of a half sister to a Schweppes Oaks winner Invest and his grand-dam is the 2003 Group One Flight Stakes winner Unearthly.

He's struck me from day one as a type that will prosper over longer journeys and he was able to prevail from perhaps the biggest eye-catcher from the heat in Chat (second).

A Kembla Grange maiden winner in early August before being tipped out, he doesn't have the residual fitness of the winner and along with Rover (third) and Grindelwald (fourth), they were clearing out from the rest.

Best Performers

Heat Three - Savvy Ken. Heat Four - Splintex. Heat Five - Circus. Heat Six - Altimeter. Heat Eight - Every Rose. Heat Ten - Encountabull. Heat Eleven - Easy Campese. Heat Twelve - Rosina Kojonup. Heat Sixteen - Gogol.
