Randwick Racing Tips For June 20 2020

Sydney Saturday racing returns to Royal Randwick this week where a nine event card has been assembled and mostly fine conditions are predicted over the next few days.

Heavy 9 is the current track reading and the rail is in the true position throughout.

Randwick Favourite - Race 2 No. 5 Keen Power

*Keen Power has been scratched from Race 2 at Randwick

Randwick Value Bet - Race 3 No. 7 Longbottom

She's deep into her preparation but this filly is holding her form and arrives here off a terrific effort for third over this track and distance on May 23.

On a testing surface, she was able to rattle off the fastest last 600m of the meeting (35.07) after settling towards the rear from barrier ten which has certainly cost her finishing much closer there.

From a kinder gate of three this time around, James McDonald can settle Longbottom at least a few pairs closer and blend into this event from a more prominent stalking position.

Longbottom is proving to be both a versatile and consistent galloper and with more favors as mentioned, she represents good value in the early Randwick markets.

Randwick Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Mount Popa

Team Hawkes bring this import north to Sydney following an excellent Australian debut run for fourth at Flemington on June 6.

His European form shows that he never had a start below 2000m before that outing, so to get as close as he did there over seven furlongs was admirable with the strong work late backed-up on the clock in rattling off the fastest last 400m and 600m of that race.

Mount Popa does step straight up to 2000m now which is a little unconventional, however, that query never fazes me as much with these internationals and finding a staying affair in this benchmark, I suspect the stable are eying a kill with a horse that's going well.

Preferred stable hoop Tommy Berry dons the famous Rupert Legh colors yet again and with barrier seven giving him a stack of options early, class can see Mount Popa home in a rather weak race.

TAB HANDICAP Tips (Race 7)

Randwick Roughie - Race 7 No. 4 What Could Be

Whilst he'll ideally be seeking a drier Randwick circuit than the current Heavy 9 reading, this seven-year-old shouldn't be dismissed in what's a very open sprint.

A gelding who did win at huge odds ($41) via his last attempt at Randwick last year in a similar race to what he faces here, the fresh Tamworth run on May 21 had merit.

In an on-pace dominated affair, he wasn't getting any closer than the eventual vmidfield finish with 63kg on his back but perhaps with this being a set-play on a circuit he's twice a winner over, it was nice a flatform to build off.

With Oakfield Twilight in the field, the speed will be on early and looking to swoop late under Jason Collett, What Could Be isn't without a rough chance in an event with no standouts.

Randwick Best Bet - Race 8 No. 4 Mr Dependable

Without any favours, it was arguably the run of the day at Rosehill on May 30 from this Waterhouse & Bott-trained four-year-old who was extremely brave.

He ultimately didn't have the speed to overcome the early situation when forced to race three-wide throughout without cover and eventually, was outside Ljungberg (beaten nearly eight lengths) and Bergen (beaten nearly five lengths) with their losing margins coming from kinder positions, adding even more merit to this performance.

The step straight up to a mile is a big plus for Mr Dependable who can cruise across a little more at his own leisure over this longer journey and his last second-up attempt resulted in a big win over Rocha Clock, who's since placed behind the smart Dawn Passage.

Mr Dependable has the talent to progress further through the grades and if he's to do that, then these are the fields he needs to be accounting for and with that, we'll make him our best bet at Randwick this Saturday.
