Randwick Guineas Day 2020 Day Tips

The $1 million dollar Group One Randwick Guineas headlines a quality nine race program from Royal Randwick this Saturday.

With light rain at most predicted over Friday and Saturday, the track is currently in the Heavy 8 range and the rail shifts out to the 3m position.

Race 5 No. 7 Standout

The big question looms - will this well bred colt handle the wet ground?

It's always an unknown until they see it under race pressure as the trials under a hold are very much inconclusive and he couldn't have been under a stronger grip when winning the fastest 1030 metre trial of the Rosehill morning on February 25.

A full brother to the 2013 Golden Slipper winner Overreach, his older sibling was unbeaten in two attempts on soft tracks and being out of a Snippets mare, is about the biggest positive you can find.

The Group One Canterbury Stakes field isn't big, but it looks a fascinating contest (perhaps even more so due to the conditions) and plenty of eyes will be on this colt who's following a similar path to Trapeze Artist.

Randwick Guineas Day Best Bet

Race 1 No. 3 Fasika

She's still very much untapped is the lightly-raced mare by So You Think who's resuming in the Wenona Girl Quality for her third racing preparation.

Prepared by the Joe Pride yard, she's worked through the grades in only six race starts to date which included a listed victory in her first campaign to make it three from three.

Was certainly thrown in the deep end last time in with two close runner-ups, including a close defeat to the very handy Inevitable (a live Newmarket chance) before being spelled after a Golden Eagle flop.

Off the back of two nice trials and now finding wet ground again that looks advantageous for this four-year-old, Fasika is well placed as the best bet on the 2020 Randwick Guineas card.

Race 9 No. 1 Danzdanzdance

Even with the big weight, this is probably the most winnable assignment that this now Chris Waller-trained mare has seen in Australia.

The key to her simply is finding a wet track and the three-four week gap for her is ideal going off past history with her last start Apollo Stakes run being a strong performance,

She was the pick of finishers there which the clock backed up with a 34.49 last 600m (race fastest) and wasn't dealt any favors with how that race was run.

As a dual group one winner, Danzdanzdance is comfortably the class animal back against her own sex in the Aspiration Quality and if they're able to make ground, she'll be storming home late.

Race 4 No. 2 True Detective

It was the run of day by this three-year-old son of Shamus Award on January 25 coming in off just the one trial.

Was no match for the impressive Pandemic who eventually got the dream passage through but did manage the fastest last 200m of that race when balancing up and attacking the line late.

Whilst he was disappointing on face value last time out in the Inglis Sprint, there were doubts pre-race which could have attributed and even, he still managed a third placing.

He's hardly trustworthy hence the price but in an open race with plenty of early speed engaged, True Detective certainly isn't hopeless in the Fireball Stakes if he brings his best.
