Randwick Blackbookers - Saturday, January 11 2020

Luvaluva looked the obvious and made it two in a row when taking out the feature from Royal Randwick via the Listed January Cup on Saturday.

The punters did chime in well from then on with the last five winners on the program all being well supported including Helga who was backed all the way into $2.80 in the seventh.

We've highlighted three runners below that can improve off their Saturday efforts.

Randwick Race 2 - Dulette

It was a brave effort from this gelding who was resuming off a six month break.

He found himself three wide early and forced to cover that extra ground throughout the journey and considering that, he's stuck on well for fourth and put a length on the fifth placed favourite.

Whilst not being able to go with the front-runner and winner Assault'n'bathory, he's put a clear space on the other on-speed runners in Siege Warfare (last), Magnarock (eight), Zardoro (sixth) and Rioli (eleventh) which adds plenty of merit to this effort.

It's also worth noting the lack of fresh form on Dulette's record who was a winner over seven furlongs last time in and has only finished outside the placings once from four second-up attempts.

Likely Target: The 3 weeks between runs pattern was successful last campaign (1500m Class 3 Highway on Feb 1) and with a rating of 65, he can go back to country level if they choose.

Randwick Race 6 - War Baron

A son of Declaration Of War that is building into this preparation nicely following two sound efforts now.

I'm willing to ignore the average winning strike rate for now given he does looks to be maturing now as a middle distance/staying type and has done a fair chunk of his earlier racing at a strong standard.

He finally did break the maiden last time in when stepping up to 1800m and dropping back to the provincials before being spelled following a flop in the Group Three Gloaming Stakes.

With the fastest last furlong of this event, War Baron is looking for further following two runs at a mile and can be placed a lot softer than Benchmark 70 grade.

Likely Target: He holds a Class 1 & Maiden nomination for this this Thursday at Gosford over 1900m.

Randwick Race 8 - All Too Soon

Another galloper from the David Payne stable is this mare who had a stack of excuses here first-up.

An indecisive steer forced All Too Soon to race wide and without cover when they should've crossed earlier and at the 350m, she looked to be going nowhere.

She has managed to pick up again late where she clocked in the second fastest last furlong of the race and coming in off the one trial, All Too Soon can bounce strongly off this performance.

Given she is a while between drinks now, her rating has dropped and at 79, can now pop back into a 78 with a claim and did bolt in with a big weight the last time she was in that benchmark.

Likely Target: There's a 1600m Fillies & Mares Benchmark 78 at Rosehill on January 25 that looks ideal.
