Horses For The Blackbook From Black Caviar Lightning Stakes Day 2020 - Who To Follow

Lightning Stakes Day saw some big names take the turf with the highlight of the day  the battle between Alligator Blood and Catalyst.

We are keen to be following Catalyst out of the race but there are two other runners we want to follow as well, including a place getter in the Group One.

Blackbook: Flemington Race 3 – Pioneer River

This 2YO from Lindsay Park really caught my eye when closing down the middle of the track when clearly those inside four lanes were the place to be early on in the day.

The colt out of Snitzel is looking for more ground, but not necessarily this prep as it may come too soon.

He still has a lot to learn as he was wondering around the middle of the track and Zahra did have to straighten him up a couple of times.

Throw him in your blackbook and especially as a 3YO, he could be strong chance in stakes racing.

Likely Target: Early 3YO Races

Blackbook: Flemington Race 5 – Catalyst

Clearly a standout performance of the beaten brigade with the Australian Guineas in mind.

He looked as if he was about to waltz on by Alligator Blood, but he kept kicking on the inside.

The Australian Guineas shapes as a different race with Catalyst having a 1kg weight swing in his favour as well as a bigger field with a strong pace up front.

This is the perfect race pattern to see this boy explode.

The race he ran on the weekend was very quick, and I mean very quick.

Their last 600m was run quicker than the Lightning Stakes, so they did fly.

The mile will be a different scenario and I think this is the horse you will want to be on.

Likely Target: Australian Guineas

Blackbook: Flemington Race 7 – Loving Gaby

This filly came back super and I think would have won the race had she been on the inside rather than on Nature Strip’s side.

She looks to have matured once again and certainly looks up to tackling the big boys in the upcoming Group One sprints.

The Newmarket looks the best options for her, an extra 200m which suits and with the straight track experience under her belt she will be better off.

She will get in light being a 3YO filly and she has that explosiveness to win a race like this, just like Sunlight and Brazen Beau both have done in recent years as 3YO’s.

Likely Target: Newmarket Handicap

Blackbook FAQ

What is a blackbook?

This is an area where punters will note down horses to follow from any particular meeting.

Why do I need a blackbook?

Having races run and won seven days a week, it can be hard to keep track of certain horses and some may slip out of your mind.

A blackbook will ensure that the horse you want to follow is saved.

What is the criteria for a blackbooked runner?

There is no criteria, it is simply a horse you think was unlucky, will improve or any reason at all that you wish to follow a horse into their next few starts.
