Best Bet:
Race 5 No. 7 Junebug
The Irish-bred mare showed ability in France and delivered a first up victory when racing over 1280m at Muswellbrook in May.
Junebug raced on a Heavy 9 track day and has gone on to prove she is a versatile type going wise with placed efforts on quicker going.
The most recent of those efforts saw the daughter of Lope de Vega stepped up to 2145m for a Class 1 set weights event at Goulburn in June.
The mare had issues with travel to the track that day and acquitted herself well in being beaten just under three-and-a-half-lengths into second.
The winner that day Victory Roll has won twice subsequently, including in a Rosehill metro contest.
The drop back in distance shouldn’t pose too many issues in this contest and racing first-up, she looks up to saluting from an inside barrier.
Next Best:
Race 7 No. 1 Maximum Power
The four-year-old showed a liking for wet tracks last year, including when breaking his maiden on a soft 7 track at Warracknabeal in July.
The gelding raced first-up over 1200m that day having made three previous starts, with all three coming on a good 4 surface.
A runner-up finish when again encountering Soft 7 going at Cranbourne followed prior to a Benchmark 58 handicap win on good ground at Geelong.
The son of Cable Bay appeared to find the distance on the short side when resuming with a fifth-of-six over 1000m at Mornington last month.
Maximum Power went on to show up well for a long way before fading having jumped at $31 for a Benchmark 64 handicap over this distance at Cranbourne.
A slight drop in grade suits on Tuesday, while he'll only strip fitter with a six-furlong run under the belt.
Market Mover:
Race 2 No. 4 Gellhorn
Michael Kent’s filly delivered a highly creditable effort when fourth in the Listed Glow Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield at the end of November.
The three-year-old had placed third in a Geelong maiden that has produced winners prior to that and punters have latched on to the daughter of Omaha Beach.
Gellhorn is now a $1.85 favourite with Unibet Australia
Stats Say:
Trainer Jerome Hunter boasts a 23% strike-rate (7/30) at this track and was on the mark with a winner here earlier this month.
He saddles three on the card with the highly promising Steph Hateley bidding to register a victory on board the twice-raced Fluffy’s Girl in the opener.
Logan Bates and Molly The Magician are expected to jump at big odds in the second, however, they shouldn’t be ruled out with the filly debuting with a fourth at Mornington.
In the finale, Mornington debut winner She’s Slick has plenty in her favour from an inside barrier, dropping in grade and back racing against her own sex following a fifth there last time.
