Wellington Value Bet - Race 2 No. 8 Goodbye Stranger
It was solid debut at Goulburn from this three-year-old, who wasn't in contention after settling well back over 1000m, but he got home nicely (fastest last 400m of the race).
Goodbye Stranger did show more tactical speed via a quiet trial leading into that March 24 performance, so there's an option to settle closer this time, especially from gate one.
He's bred to get over more ground, so the extra 100m will only suit at start two and with natural improvement here in a maiden that looks weaker, he should go close.
Bill Payne Memorial Class 1 & Maiden Tips (Race 4)
Wellington Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Tokyo Run
This is a massive drop in grade, with Tokyo Run coming out of the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes to contest a set weights Class 1 at country level, while coming back in trip suits for now.
While he was outclassed at Rosehill, the Dean Mirfin-trained galloper wasn't exactly disgraced, having beat home five runners there and that followed an unlucky provincial attempt.
He was held-up at stages of that Hawkesbury BM64 before flashing late up the inside, while the start prior, he covered ground in a maiden win and that race has produced three winners.
Barnson Pty Ltd Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Wellington Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Royal Bombadier
He's been racing consistently at provincial level this campaign, which includes a first-up victory at Newcastle and he followed that up a runner-up finish at Kembla Grange.
Royal Bombadier didn't relish heavy ground via his latest showing, although he was only beaten two lengths in that third-up tilt, while another winner has come out of that race.
The winkers go on for Friday's fourth-up assignment and with gun country hoop Aaron Bullock taking the reins, he's very well placed to bring up win two via a modest Class 1 dash.
Allendale Merino Stud BM50 Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Wellington Roughie - Race 7 No. 3 Bowie Of Dubai
His form did taper off as 2023 wore on, however, Bowie Of Dubai showed he was capable in better company earlier that year, with back-to-back provincial wins recorded.
Following a solid lead-up trial, it was effectively a non-event on return at Goulburn, where the five-year-old was badly held-up in the run home and he then ventured to Orange.
That second-up performance only fair, but he was shuffled back early from a wide draw and with a big drop in grade third-up along with a kinder barrier, he can improve at this level.
