Warrnambool Tips for May 5
Decron Dunroe BM120 Steeplechase Tips (Race 4)
Warrnambool Value Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Ascot Red
Early on in his jumping career, he was spruiked to be steeplechaser of the future, but just in his last three steeplechase starts, he has not done a whole lot.
The key for thisgelding is getting back to heavy ground, where he was a 14 length winner last prep and even recorded two flat placings in strong races.
Ascot Red has the big weight to lump, but this is by far the easiest race he has faced in some time, and has the important heavy track in its favour.
He has placed three times from four starts at the 'Bool and with Clayton Douglas on, a return to form wouldn't shock at a big quote.
Sinclair Wilson BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Warrnambool Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Mckeever
I was taken by the debut win of this three-year-old who after being smashed in the market, sat three-wide on speed yet still proved too good for a useful rival in King Dick, one that has subsequently won by five lengths.
I am convinced McKeever is handy and we know that at this carnival, we often see Symon Wilde get a few winners.
Joe Bowditch is riding in terrific form and sticks with the son of Deep Field, an encouraging sign going forward.
The only query is the heavy track, but he got through the soft ground well and I am sure the Wilde camp would not run him if they did not think he could get through it.
Sovereign Resort Galleywood Hurdle Tips (Race 6)
Warrnambool Best Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Saunter Boy
This hurdler is untapped and an excitement machine going forward, winning last start in a canter over the jumps.
He is a very clean jumper and can sprint on the flat, to dangerous elements for any hurdler looking to face him now and in the future.
Leading jumps jockey Steve Pateman sticks with Saunter Boy which shows he is probably the best horse in this race with the heavy ground the only concern.
Instigator is the main danger, but as long as he continues to jump clean and can plow through the mud, I think he will prove himself as arguably the best hurdler in Australia on Wednsday.
