Sha Tin Tips April 3

Ting Kau Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Sha Tin Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 10 Hinokami Kagura

Over the last 12 months, Zac Purton and Jamie Richards have combined for 14 winners at a strike rate of 19.7%, and the champion hoop jumps aboard this gelding for the first time.

After a slow start to his career, Hinokami Kagura has improved out of sight since being switched to the Sha Tin All-Weather circuit, with a second and a fourth recorded on this track.

The run that stands out ratings-wise here is the performance two starts back when runner-up to an in-form Fast Buck, who subsequently placed when up in grade at his next outing.

There was a slight regression via his latest attempt, however, the three-year-old was set a big task in that March 16 event and this is comfortably the weakest race that he's seen.

Ting Kau Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Sha Tin Best Bet - Race 4 No. 10 High Rise Power

The son of Smart Missile was given time after poor showings at starts one and two, and via his last two trials ahead of his February 25 return, High Rise Power looked a different horse.

He has transferred that touch to race day, with a fair fresh effort at Sha Tin in a race that's produced four winners and he bounced off that with an improved run last time out.

High Rise Power kept surging from off the speed in that March 6 race despite covering ground and he has weight swings on both Solid Shalaa and Diamond Flare from that recent clash.

We'll get a decent guide on that form through Hinokami Kagura in Race 3, as the gelding finished alongside of him in that March 6 affair and on merit, he outperformed that galloper.

Yau Kom Tau Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Sha Tin Roughie - Race 6 No. 7 Lightning Bolt

This Danny Shum-trained galloper has a fair record on the Sha Tin All-Weather circuit and while he hasn't won this season, his best run came on this track back on January 7.

Lightning Bolt finished fifth-of-twelve in that performance, where he carried 60kg and now with his rating having dropped further, he's in the same grade (Class 3) but with 4kg less.

After plain runs in two subsequent Happy Valley appearances, he put in a much-improved showing two back when getting home for fourth in a race that favoured on-speed runners.

The six-year-old is big price here following a seven-length defeat on March 3, however, he wasn't able to build momentum there at key stages and this race does look a little easier.

Stonecutters Island Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Sha Tin Favourite - Race 7 No. 5 Mission Bravo

All three of his Hong Kong victories have come on the Sha Tin All-Weather circuit, while he was prepared by Mark Newnham when campaigning in Australia, and he trains him now.

The last of his wins came second-up in October and while a failure followed that triumph, Mission Bravo bounced back after freshen-up with a runner-up finish here on January 24.

The issue in his last two performances has been slow getaways, which is out of character for Mission Bravo, although recent activity at the trials suggests that he may have turned a corner.

He managed to jump cleanly in his latest workout here on March 22, so he can make use of a low draw early and with consistent All-Weather track figures, he's a leading chance.

Rambler Channel Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Sha Tin Value Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Alacrity

This Jamie Richards-trained galloper was a touch plain when stepping up to 1800m on the Sha Tin turf track last start, but his prior form in the 1400m-1650m range was consistent.

Alacrity has completed a quiet tick-over trial on this All-Weather circuit since that March 10 race and it's worth noting that he was well in the market via that most recent outing.

That performance followed a nice third over this track/trip seven days earlier, so he may simply been flat on the quicker turnaround, with most of previous runs being spaced out more.

He's tactically versatile, so the option is there to ride Alacrity a little quieter from a wide draw, especially if they're able to make ground and he has placed in both runs on this circuit.
