Scone Tips May 17

Widden Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Scone Roughie - Race 3 No. 17 Casino Stage

He faces stiffer competition second-up in what's a strong Class 1, however, Casino Stage is a locally-trained galloper with upside and he's suited out to 1600m second-up.

The four-year-old recorded a stylish debut victory in December before a spell, albeit he didn't a lot there and the gelding was a notable drifter via his recent Tamworth return.

Casino Stage only got warm late in that fresh outing and he recorded the fastest closing splits of the race, while he arrived to that off a trial win a decent open heat at Scone.

Lion Class 2 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Scone Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Emmadella

Connections opted against a few wet tracks last week despite the filly looking a decent chance in a Warwick Farm midweek affair following a strong Canterbury return.

Emmadella has hardly put a hoof wrong in six career outings and she was consistent throughout her second campaign, with two wins and two placings from four spring runs.

She beat a useful Callistemon second-up at Kembla Grange last prep and finishing third in that maiden was Waikato Girl, a filly who won a Listed race in Brisbane on April 27.

Newgate Class 2 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Scone Best Bet - Race 7 No. 3 How Dare You

Godolphin often feature over the Scone Racing Carnival, so it's no surprise to see James Cummings enter a big team for both Friday and Saturday, which includes How Dare You.

A filly who is from the same family as Viscount (three-time Group 1 winner), the three-year-old finds an ideal race to resume in following a short two-run campaign over summer.

She placed in both December runs, which includes a fresh chasing effort behind Treize and her recent lead-up work has been stronger than what she delivered before her last prep.

Darley Scone Cup Tips (Race 8)

Scone Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Converge

The market suggests that it's a very open Scone Cup and while it's a tough one for punters, this edition is one the strongest we've seen for this 200k Listed feature.

Converge has to be respected at big odds, a two-time Group 1 winner who arrives to this 1600m assignment first-up off two quiet trials and blinkers go back on for race day.

His best runs last year were early in a prep, with the gelding unlucky in the Canterbury Stakes when wide and his subsequent form reads well via the Kingsford-Smith and Epsom (luckless there).

Vinery Country Cup Tips (Race 9)

Scone Value Bet - Race 9 No. 11 The Dramatist

A local galloper from the strong Rodney Northam yard, The Dramatist lost the rider when more than five weeks between runs last start, which followed a decent fresh run.

While he's given the impression that 1600m-2000m would suit, he hasn't succeeded over those longer trips, with a fast-run seven furlongs on a big track being his ideal scenario.

The Dramatist gets that set-up on Friday and with weight off some of the classier rivals in the field, along with a middle draw being ideal given his pattern, he's found his right race.
