PRYDE'S EASIFEED COUNTRY MAGIC MAIDEN PLATE Tips (Race 1)
Scone Best Bet - Race 1 No. 1 Anselmo
Keagan Latham has ridden 31 winners this autumn and via the opener on the 2021 Scone Cup program, he combines with local trainer Brett Cavanough with this three-year-old that looks much better placed stepping up to 1300m.
He has competed in three strong Maidens, starting with a Mudgee debut effort for third, a race that has produced five individual winners and rounded out his summer campaign with a narrow defeat in Brisbane, with two subsequent city winners coming from that event.
Despite going down as favourite fresh, the chasing effort for second in a fast run 1000m (for the class) had merit over a trip that was ultimately a little sharp and with 50k Country Maidens not being the norm, I do suspect this is the target on his home track.
NEWGATE CLASS 1 HANDICAP Tips (Race 4)
Scone Value Bet - Race 4 No. 9 Taketheshot
A very raw galloper early days, a few gear changes after a wayward second outing last August has seen this three-year-old improve and put together a string of competitive showings, having not missed a top three finish in his last five appearances.
The son of Smart Missile prevailed comfortably over the Scone 1100m in October, defeating five subsequent winners in the process including Moyassar who prevailed in his next two starts and the two autumn runs from this gelding indicate a peak performance could be on the cards now.
It is a very competitive Class 1 which is to expected on a feature day, however, he was only a stride off winning fresh and via his latest effort on Tamworth Cup Day, ran into the very talented Ice In Vancouver and is better suited onto the bigger Scone circuit.
ARROWFIELD COUNTRY CUP - BENCHMARK 84 HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Scone Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Sneak Preview
Rattling home for third behind a pair of city class gallopers fresh, Sneak Preview was then sent on a Wagga Town Plate path, launching late for third in the Prelude before a midfield finish in last Friday's $200,000 feature, and he was inconvenienced there.
Nothing was beating Marway on that occasion, a very dominant winner and despite the attempts over the shorter journeys, this five-year-old has always looked more of a seven to eight furlong type (finished third in this event last year which was run in class record time).
The obvious query is him backing up seven days later with that travel, but trusting the very astute Kody Nestor yard and as the most talented runner in this field, he doesn't need to get anywhere as far back over this trip (jumped well both first and second-up).
DARLEY SCONE CUP Tips (Race 7)
Scone Roughie - Race 7 No. 3 Order Again
It's a very competitive edition of the Scone Cup, a feature that you'd want a price to be entertaining a wager in and big odds are available for this Chris Waller-trained gelding who does have each-way claims.
Order Again put in a stack of flashing light performances last winter, a campaign in which he recorded a pair of placings at Stakes level, but he did get very costly for punters, consistently coming just that little bit short and was in the market most times.
The seven-year-old broke a long winning drought first-up in January and couldn't have been more impressive there while the two trials leading into this return, especially the May 7 Warwick Farm hit out when going to the line under a firm hold, have been faultless.
