Sandown Tips April 15

Race 1 - 12:25PM Surewise Vobis Gold Heath Tips (2100m)

Selections: 2,1,7,8.

2022 Australian Oaks winner 2. EL PATRONESS has to be the starting point. She was building well ahead of the Queen Elizabeth, with a luckless Australian Cup effort third-up and had she come here straight off that Group 1, it'd be chips in. The seven-day back-up coupled with an interstate trip is always a big test for any horse.

1. Beltoro answered the 2000m question with a dominant Albury Cup display, albeit it was a very weak edition of that race and he's now lumping 59kg, having carried 54kg via his last two. He's airborne, though.

7. Tobaysure is a progressive four-year-old that returned to winner's stall third-up at Sale, despite a big weight. He looks the likely leader.

Honest SA galloper 8. Aitch D'amico strips fitter with two runs back from a let-up. He's a top four hope.

Race 2 - 1:00PM Flying Artie At Blue Gum Gold Distaff Tips (1400m)

Selections: 4,1,6,3.

Tricky mares' race and if there's a bet, then 4. GOOD AND PROPER is the play on an each-way basis, with the six-year-old an eye-catcher from last on return, finishing second in an otherwise leader dominated affair. She finished third in the 2021 edition of the Gold Distaff off a similar run and was stakes placed later that year.

With a better draw, 1. Megamea would be promoted to first, a mare that is improving with age and the Flemington return was a nice lead-up with this in mind. May have to loop them off a slow speed.

The QLD winter form of 6. Belle Savoir stands out, although she was a little plain fresh despite finding the fast lane. Staying at 1400m is also a query.

3. Intellective had excuses at Ballarat two back, but aside from that, she has been consistent this year.

Race 3 - 1:35PM Paulele Vobis Gold Dash Tips (1200m)

Selections: 6,3,4,1.

Plenty of chances here and 6. MANHATTAN THUNDER is one of those, although he may wany a firmer deck come race day (no rain predicted until Sat arvo). Showed above average ability in his first prep and after labouring a little this time in, the blinkers went on and that brought about an improved showing at Sale.

A testing 1200m could leave 3. Shalaman vulnerable, but he should come on from the 955m return and in this field, he can settle a lot closer. He has a touch of class and all of his form has come on wet tracks.

4. She Dances was in great touch over summer when recording a hat-trick (well placed). Ran into a smart one on March 25 after a freshen-up.

1. El Padrino returns gelded and his form reads well. Recent jump-out was plain, but won the prior hit-out.

Race 4 - 2:10PM Russian Camelot At Widden Galilee Final Tips (2400m)

Selections: 1,7,3,2.

The main form reference is the St Leger trial at Bendigo and 1. NORTHERN BARRAGE was easily the pick of these to come from that, with the Mick Kent gelding making ground for second against the pattern of that April 1 card. He was more than five weeks between runs there after showing ability in four Summer outings.

7. Bengal Bay is a maiden that's completed three runs this prep and off the last start Pakenham run behind Moya Lass (midfield in a Group 2 the start prior), he'll eat up 2400m. He handles all surfaces too.

3. Nightsun was held-up at key stages in that St Leger trial, before taking a tight gap on the inside. That was his second run back from a let-up.

2. Midnight Glow had excuses in that Bendigo lead-up, racing three-wide throughout over the 2200m.

Race 5 - 2:50PM Avenel Equine Hospital Sires Guineas Tips (1600m)

Selections: 9,4,1,2.

The Maher & Eustace-trained 9. RUNNING BY has had a perfect lead-up. Fresh in the Inglis Sprint, she found the line late behind a smart Benedetta, then over 1400m in the Bendigo Guineas, she worked home against the track pattern as runner-up to Waltz On By, who is stakes class. Looks to be peaking here third-up over a mile.

4. Toronto Terrier was a stylish fresh winner and going 1200m to 1600m second-up, only a wide gate cost him going back-to-back. Has a low draw here and was kept up to the mark via a jump-out vs White Marlin.

Last year's Showdown winner 1. Kings Consort hasn't won aside from that feature, but was competitive over spring and summer in decent races.

2. Bel Air has been up a while, but is holding form. Was almost a good thing licked in the VOBIS Gold Reef.

Race 6 - 3:30PM Yulong Stud Vobis Gold Sprint Tips (1200m)

Selections: 3,5,10,7.

Handy race and leaning towards the very progressive 3. STORMBOLT, who landed the cash for us second-up at Flemington, where the blinkers went on following a Class 1 win at Pakenham. A strong son of Foxwedge, this gelding handled wet ground in his first prep and third-up at only start six, he's still on an upwards trajectory.

Interesting runner is 5. Outlaws Revenge, an ex-Ryan Balfour-trained sprinter who is on stable debut for Daniel Bowman. A genuine stakes class horse in Adelaide, he recorded a soft jump-out win on April 2.

10. Bill The Boxer completed a hat-trick last winter and he'll strip from the Bendigo outing on April 1. He's a likely firmer if the rain comes race day.

7. Zorro's Dream is super honest and if they go too hard up front, he could come into calculations late.

Race 7 - 4:10PM Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria Showdown Tips (1200m)

Selections: 12,4,5,8.

This Showdown is a raffle, with many of these open to improvement from debut efforts, whereas there's scattered form among the others which could stack up. 12. ELPHINSTONE was backed into $5 at Bendigo, where she missed the start and launched late. Definite excuses there and her quote here is a big overreaction.

Despite doing plenty wrong, 4. Magic Mogul refused to lie down on debut, where Esskay only just grabbed him late. The blinkers now going on could be huge, with this gelding open to a stack of improvement.

5. Arizona Activist raced greenly behind Butch Cassidy on debut. The winkers are now on and the Hayes stable are often successful with this gear change.

8. Shesallshenanigans is fav off the Gold Rush romp, but she had every favour and 1200m/this set-up is completely different.

Race 8 - 4:45PM IRT Vobis Gold Mile Tips (1600m)

Selections: 3,10,1,4.

Popular veteran 3. SO SI BON is set to contest his sixth VOBIS Gold Mile (won it twice) and despite being a rising ten-year-old, his lead-up work has been as good as ever, with the handsome gelding competitive when midfield in a hot All-Star Mile (finished next to Gentleman Roy), while he worked well in a April 6 jump-out.

10. Heart Of Puissance was clearly in need of the gallop first-up off a long break and that effort was a pass mark given where he was at. Second-up at 1600m, he could jump out of the ground here if it's wet.

12 months ago, 1. Pinstriped would be Winx odds here and despite good signs early in the spring, he hasn't progressed. He was ordinary last Sat.

Off a decent jump-out, don't be surprised if stayer 4. Teewaters performs well fresh at a big price ($41.00 @ Betr).

Race 9 - 5:20PM ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap Tips (1400m)

Selections: 4,2,7,10.

While he was competitive in group and listed company multiple times over his first few preps, 4. PASCERO returns as a gelding ahead of his third campaign, with the son of Pierro not progressing as quickly as connections would've liked last spring. Goes straight to 1400m off two solid jump-out's, which signals intent.

With three nice jump-outs in March ahead of this return, 2. Flash Feeling could produce fresh, a versatile entire that got over 2000m in spring. Gets good relief after the 3kg claim and has the class to figure.

7. Worsfold is his own worst enemy, with the six-year-old costing himself recently with slow starts. Arguably the one to beat here with even luck.

10. Riddlero is underrated in this market ($21.00 @ TopSport), with the talented four-year-old arriving off a solid third-up win.
