Sandown Tips February 11

Race 1 - 12:35PM Premier Signs Handicap Tips (2400m)

Selections: 6,13,12,7.

While these staying benchmark affairs are often raffles, 6. SO UNUSUAL is a deserved fav, with this four-year-old the most progressive horse here. At start six and off a Class 1 win, to handle this grade straight up and a fast-run 2400m was admirable. Has a 3kg penalty, but carried weight the start prior and is well placed again.

From a better draw and with a big weight swing on Wahine Toa from Jan 26, 12. Princeton Award can turn the tables on that runner and that form ties in with So Unusual from Jan 7, so he's clearly in the mix.

2400m is unknown territory for 12. Platform, but he;s ticking over well and respect this savvy SA yard on the road. Damien Oliver rides.

7. Wahine Toa might lack the upside of the fav, but is a tough stayer that's racing too well to ignore.

So Unusual - $3.90Sandown Race Onebet now

Race 2 - 1:10PM Hyland Race Colours Autumn Stakes Tips (1400m)

Selections: 4,9,6,5.

Handy three-year-old race, where we're leaning the way of Godolphin gelding 4. PERICLES, who improved nicely in his second lead-up trial, so should be forward enough. Despite jumping from 1400m to 2040m at start three, he was heavily backed to beat Berkeley Square in the Vase, and that winner would be a clear fav here.

9. Japanese Emperor landed big bets in a stylish debut victory and then a Guineas Prelude flop forced him to the paddock. Has plenty of x factor and straight to 1400m off decent jump-outs signals intent.

Race fitness could prove crucial with 6. Calico Jack, who is improving with racing despite a long prep and will get a good run on the speed.

5. Amendable brings the best spring form, although his lead-up work ahead of this was just fair.

Race 3 - 1:45PM Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude C&G Tips (1100m)

Selections: 3,1,7,5.

The Melbourne juvenile form is vanilla; hence the market is going with an unbeaten WA colt and Golden Gift winner Barber, who is 2/2 in Sydney. Leant the way of Perth raider 3. BRAVE HALO, who has visually been the more brilliant of the favs, but they're tough to split currently. Oliver is certainly no stranger to the Casey stable.

1. Barber is the ultimate professional, backing up strong trials to just do enough on debut and then made ground in the Golden Gift, showing his versatility. Hasn't gone backwards off his two Jan trials.

With a better draw, 7. Gangitano goes close on debut in the Merson Cooper, where he was eased back in a small field. Won his latest jump-out.

5. Some People Callme is decent odds ($18.00 @ TopSport), a well backed fav on debut and was just nabbed. Blinkers go on.

Race 4 - 2:20PM Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude Fillies Tips (1100m)

Selections: 1,13,3,17.

1. CHARM STONE is no spoil at the price, but goes on top in what's a modest edition of the Fillies Prelude. With race experience, she improved sharply at start two with a big win up the straight, putting a space on Empress Of Wonder, who is no slouch. After a quiet first hit-out, she completed a much stronger jump-out on Jan 23.

13. Beauty Rising is the value ($26.50 @ BoomBet). Missed the start on debut, but got home for second behind Croatian Belle, who then beat Corniche (second in BD Preview). Subsequent jump-out was impressive (jumped cleanly).

Without cover, 3. Exploring was arguably the run of the Preview (fillies), as easily the best on-speed runner in a swooper's race. Did win the start prior.

First starter 17. Soju has speed to burn going off her two jump-out wins, which were both by big margins.

Race 5 - 3:00PM Senet Kevin Hayes Stakes Tips (1100m)

Selections: 7,6,13,4.

Open race, but like the set-up for 7. CYTHERA, who has tactical speed and Mark Zahra has gate five at his disposal. A listed winner on debut, the Snowden filly was then tipped out after a third to Best Of Bordeaux. There was clearly a set-back (missed spring), but can't knock the trials and this yard don't miss often on the road.

WA filly 6. Laced Up Heels has to be respected off a spring win over Amelia's Jewel, who is unbeaten outside of that and is one the best three-year-olds in the country. This girl didn't see out a mile after that.

With residual fitness, 13. Dusse is superbly placed back to three-year-old fillies' grade after a fourth behind the flying Jigsaw in the Christmas Stakes.

4. Aitch Two Oh was a Flemington listed winner on Oaks Day. Always respect this yard in Melbourne.

Race 6 - 3:40PM Mccafe Rubiton Stakes Tips (1100m)

Selections: 5,9,6,3.

5. UNCOMMON JAMES could be anything, a QLD four-year-old that's won five of six overall and despite getting on his wrong leg for periods, he justified a short quote last Aug in his Melbourne debut. Hasn't raced since then, but the recent reports and his lead-up work suggests he's ready to fire. $3+ looks a very fair quote.

In the current market ($14.00 @ Neds), 9. Triple Missile is the other bet to have, a sprinter that has genuine group class ability. While he needs luck with his racing pattern, he has a booming finish and Sandown should suit him.

6. Chain Of Lightning won four of six in her second prep (two group races). 1100m maybe a tad sharp at this level, but her jump-out's have been slick.

3. Generation worked well behind Coolangatta recently. Hasn't won in a while, but has the class to figure.

Race 7 - 4:20PM Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes Tips (1400m)

Selections: 1,10,6,5.

With a spring prep that included a Group 1 victory over Alligator Blood, along with second-place finishes in the Memsie Stakes, Caulfield Stakes and Cox Plate, that WFA form makes 1. I'M THUNDERSTUCK the one to beat, versus rivals who are mostly a rung below that sort of company. Around $4 looks okay for the class runner.

No knocks on the early fav and stablemate; 10. Jacquinot, who returned with a big win and draws well. Importantly has race fitness on his side and did win a strong edition of the Golden Rose second-up off a similar pattern.

In the mix is 6. Aegon, who went off the boil after a promising start to his career, but off a big spell, turned it around in spring. 1400m his right trip.

What do we do with 5. Western Empire? Average start to the prep, but was superb in a recent jump-out.

Race 8 - 5:00PM The Big Screen Company T.S. Carlyon Cup Tips (1600m)

Selections: 6,9,10,5.

As the most proven miler in this field and taking on mostly stayers that are early in their work, 6. SUNSHINE RISING finds his right race. The ex-Hong Kong galloper has impressed in every trial since joining Mark Newnham and the short Nov/Dec prep was promising, with no luck in The Ingham. One of few with an ideal set-up here.

Wary of 9. Young Werther fresh, especially on good ground. Still only has the one win to his name, but placings behind Incentivise, along with competitive Turnbull and Cox Plate attempts are an indicator of his class.

5. Mankayan is versatile, winning first-up over this trip last prep, after campaign where he was successful at 2550m. He's generally thereabouts.

Fitness is key for 5. Corner Pocket, who is honest, but a query at the trip and the form him around is average.

Sunshine Rising - $4.80Sandown Race Eightbet now
18+ only. T&Cs apply. Stay in Control. Gamble Responsibly. Think! About your choices. Call Gambling Help on 1800 858 858 or visit www.gamblinghelponline.org.au.

Race 9 - 5:40PM Tile Importer Handicap Tips (1400m)

Selections: 11,8,12,7.

While 11. EAGLES CRAG has been frustrating, he's talented and being so lightly raced, there's still time for him to put it together. With a kinder draw, he beats Not Usual Glorius first-up last prep, who won another four races that campaign and he's rated above anything here. Jump-outs were strong and with 54.5kg, he's dangerous.

On Aus debut is Japanese mare 8. Sparkle, who worked as well as Tuvalu (Group 1 winner) in a Jan 31 trial. Danny O'Brien often gets these middle-distance types up early and in a BM84, Certainly respecting.

12. East Indiaman is in career best touch and although outclassed at listed level last start, he was far from disgraced. Much better placement here.

7. Bright Diamond has had five jump-outs in five weeks and is straight to 1400m, so there's clear intent.
