Sandown Tips for May 23
Ladbroke It! Hurdle Tips (Race 1)
Sandown Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 5 Mawaany Machine
This boy did not look as if he jumped the best in his hurdle debut with his flat ability getting him over the line, but the fallen panels did not help him either.
This time around from what I am hearing, the fallen panels may be raised so horses will be respecting each jump a lot more.
He was a three length winner as a very short priced favourite, really extending over the final 200m, while Pateman hopped off and said there is at least 10 lengths improvement in him.
After his hurdle debut, I do feel he is going to take a big learning experience from the outing and prove a jumping star of the near future.
Ladbrokes Australian Steeplechase Tips (Race 3)
Sandown Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Bit Of A lad
This bloke is by far the best jumper in the field and although giving 6kg to the favourite, I think he is that much better than him anyway.
He took this out last year with 70kg, winning by eight lengths with ease, coming off a fourth placing in the Grand Annual.
This time, he was placed second in the Brierly behind arguably Australia's most promising steeple chaser, while he then backed up and ran a distant fifth in the Grand Annual this time around.
I think we have established that he does not stay the Grand Annual trip, and that this distance range is right in his hitting area, where he can prove one of Australia's best once again.
Ladbrokes Switch Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Sandown Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Diamonds
I absolutely love this filly, being so genuine and always longer than what her true odds should be.
She has put together back-to-back wins for trainer Gemma Rielly, saluting in fine style last start at Pakenham in what looks a deep race on paper.
She comes up in weight, but gets the addition of Laura Lafferty claiming 3kg, so she is actually carrying 1kg less than last start.
She will need a touch of luck from the inside gate, but she has shown she can be ridden a touch closer to the speed and can be ridden, so she is simply the perfect horse to race.
What time is the first race at Sandown?
The first race at Sandown jumps at 12.10pm while the last jumps at 4.25pm.
