Sandown Tips for March 10
Ladbrokes Switch Plate Tips (Race 1)
Sandown Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 2 Prince Of Mercia
Happy to take on Apres La Mer who did run second in a strong Maiden last start, but has also done the same in Country races and is proving quite costly to punters.
On the other hand we have Prince Of Mercia who has gone under at an odds-on quote at all three starts to date.
He was over 1300m last start, only being run over the final 100m, so coming back to the 1200m looks ideal for this talented galloper who just needs the confidence boosting win to go through the grades.
Many of the Clayton Douglas runners are being heavily backed early, so if you are keen to play, I advise taking the $3.40 available.
Ladbrokes Easy Form Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Sandown Best Bet - Race 5 No. 9 Seguso
This horse defeated Apres La Mer last start at Moonee Valley, with the latter having every chance to win and nothing going right for this classy colt who is out of Shamal Wind, a Group One winning sprinter.
Seguso was caught back in a fast run race where something was always going to have to run on from the back, but he ran into plenty of traffic on the way through.
There has been multiple winners come out of that contest and now this three-year-old gets to a big surrounds of Sandown, which should suit.
With a great pedigree and as a galloper that can get perhaps get to black-type level at some stage, this does look a very winnable race on the way through.
Vale Jim Johnson Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Sandown Value Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Hydro Star
Since a very average effort at Sandown last start, he has been gelded which could spark an improved performance, as we do know he has ability.
The debut win has stuck in my mind where he showed an elite turn-of-foot to power over the top of them last winter.
Trainer John McArdle is on fire at the moment so we can take confidence that he is placing his horses to perfection.
His first-up run for the prep was encouraging at Flemington so the ability is still there, so if we can see Hydro Star back to anywhere near his best, then he is clearly better than 64 grade.
