Sandown Tips for February 24
Thoroughbred Club Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Sandown Value Bet – Race 4 No. 5 Paris Pike
It's always a query with Maiden winners in sprint races stepping up in grade, but I love a progressive maiden stayer winning and then coming up in grade.
This gelding won by eight lengths last start in a hand canter, in what was a very average race, but he did it with such authority stepping out in trip.
The track was a little wet that day, so he does need to handle the firmer going, but I just feel that the big track suits him and getting out to 2400m is nothing but ideal.
We saw a long time Maiden named Clever Approach win before prevailing at double figures up in grade a few weeks ago, so again against a limited bunch of stayers, he can feature at a good price.
Tile Importer Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Sandown Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Legend Of Zorro
After putting together two great runs in a row, this gelding looks ready to return to the winner’s stall.
The form from his January 20 outing has stood up in three-year-old stakes company with It’sourtime placing twice at that level.
Last start, Legend Of Zorro was too far back at Ballarat, but still ran well to come fourth behind La Vina and subsequent winner Governor Landy.
He is building to a deserving win and strikes a very winnable race here, so happy to play his way as the next best of the day at the price.
MRC Members Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Sandown Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Harlem Blues
This three-year-old ran super in his two starts last prep, beaten in an on-pace dominated race fresh before running a half-length fourth to Riding The Wave who has been running in Stakes races over the Summer.
Although his first-up form is not flash, he has been gelded for this prep and has trialled up superbly in readiness for this return.
Jamie Kah takes the mount for the first time, which shows positive intent from the Snowden stable.
Harlem Blues looks the galloper with some upside in this line-up and with even luck from from a wide draw, he can take out the penultimate from Sandown on Wednesday.
