Sandown Tips for January 20
Ladbrokes Split Multi Plate Tips (Race 1)
Sandown Best Bet - Sandown Race 1 No. 1 Johnny Angel
This four-year-old gelding has placed at his last four outings, last start going down to a sibling of Group One winner Streets Of Avalon.
Before that, he battled away well behind an all the way winner at Caulfield and was sound prior to that effort.
Johnny Angel now looks to strike a race of only two logical chances, himself and the favourite Ord, a galloper who let punters down when in the red last start.
He now gets Damian Lane aboard who will give this horse every chance, so we are expecting a two horse tussle to the line and this boy to come out the strongest.

Sandown Value Bet - Race 4 No. 9 Just As Soon
I have a soft spot for this staying prospect from the Freedman barn who has shown some ability in his couple of campaigns to date.
First-up at Sale, he was good when riding the pace when a big drifter in the market, coming at the line once again over the final 100m.
Second-up, Just As Soon was rising the 2100m and up in grade, where he just held his position, looking as if he wanted even further.
Now third-up, up to an ideal 2400m journey and back down in grade, Damian Lane will just need to navigate a path from barrier one and he will be right in the finish.

Sandown Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 1 Excelida
Excelida has the city class form to prove a touch too strong for this company, after three subsequent city placings, including last start where she was under a length from Miss Albania.
Although she is a tough one to catch, this looks the weakest race on paper that she has faced in some time, sitting at the top of the weights.
Apprentice Will Price hops aboard who is currently striking at 20% and takes an important 2kg off of her back, which sees her very well in at the weights.
Excelida is a galloper who always needs luck in running, so on the big flat circuit of Sandown, she should get all the room she needs and prove hard to hold our over the final furlong.
What time is the first race at Sandown?
The first race at Sandown jumps at 3.40pm with the last to be run at 7.30pm.
Who is the best bet at Sandown?
We are siding with Johnny Angel as the best bet at Sandown.

Johnny Angel strikes a moderate race and gets Damian Lane in the saddle for the first time.
Excelida comes back to a weaker race after subsequent city placings and gets her chance to win.
Just As Soon is a nice stayer going forward and can run well now third-up and up in trip.
