Rosehill Tips November 9
Race 1 - 12:25PM Midway Handicap Tips (1300m)
Best: 7. Monte Supreme. In a competitive race, there's a sense of timing with Monte Supreme, who shouldn't be far away now fourth-up following unlucky attempts via her last two showings.
After a somewhat plain return, the four-year-old was terrific without favours second-up at Hawkesbury, where she kept surging late with 61kg despite covering ground.
Monte Supreme was then eased back from a wide draw in a Randwick Midway before being held-up in the home straight, while Tommy Berry has a kinder draw at his disposal here.
Value: 1. Conrad. This Kim Waugh-trained galloper will be jumping out of his skin for Saturday's third-up tilt, with the son of Maurice finding nothing but backsides in both spring runs.
We were with Conrad at a big price in his last performance on October 26 and while it wasn't a pretty watch in the home straight, I don't buy that he was a good thing beaten.
There were excuses post-race in both winter flops at Rosehill and the two slick September trials ahead of this campaign both suggested that Conrad was back on track.
Race 2 - 1:00PM Ranvet Handicap Tips (1100m)
Best: 4. Angel Fund. The most trustworthy galloper in this field is Confess Our Dreams and while the fav finds another winnable race, she's very well found at an even money quote.
Angel Fund was taking ground off her late when returning that Warwick Farm and it's worth noting the perfect two-from-two second-up record from the lightly raced five-year-old.
What Passeggiata does is a guessing game, with the speedster having missed the start in both runs this prep, but she's down in grade third-up out of a high rating race and a Soft 7 track didn't suit there.
Value: 6. Pretty Tavi. Her last campaign for the Anthony & Sam Freedman operation did fall away late, with Pretty Tavi now set to make her stable debut for Jack Pilkington.
A noted first-up performer who has recorded two fresh wins and a second from four first-up tries, the daughter of Tavistock has worked out nicely ahead of Saturday's resumption.
While there's a narrow Soft 6 triumph to her name, I suspect that she's more effective on firmer ground and the last performances for the old yard also point towards that.
Race 3 - 1:35PM TAB Highway Handicap Tips (1200m)
Best: 5. Gentileschi. It's not exactly the ideal setup with a wide barrier over a trip a little short of her best, however, Gentileschi looks the clear class runner in Saturday's Highway.
She put together a tidy record last season, with a hat-trick brought up in a Hawkesbury Highway romp before going north and contesting two races in Queensland.
The daughter of Dundeel was beaten as an odds-on fav at the Sunshine Coast before running in the Queensland Oaks, so there's clearly an opinion of her and she might just be better then these.
Value: 17. Miss Rebel. She off the scene for almost two years before kicking off her second campaign late in September and the daughter of Rebel Dane has shown talent.
After running into a what looks a useful Speedy One when resuming Scone, Miss Rebel got the job done in style when recording a comfortable breakthrough win at Muswellbrook.
She's still doing things wrong and laying in proved costly in her last outing, while over a little further and drawing out a shade more, the mare can get into a better rhythm on the speed.
Race 4 - 2:10PM TAB Handicap Tips (2400m)
Best: 5. Kadavar. It's hard to be too confident in these Sydney staying benchmark affairs, although Kadavar appears ready to peak now fourth-up over 2400m.
The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old is building into the spring well and over 2140m via his last outing, he did come off the bridle a little too early before picking up again late.
State Of America (winner) franked the form by saluting again last week and before a spell, Kadavar beat Father's Day over this trip and you can tie his form in with Golden Path, which is standing up at Group level.
Value: 7. Misterkipchoge. He's getting costly and Misterkipchoge is now back in Sydney after recording two placings in Melbourne, while he was luckless before heading south.
He was badly held up twice under Nash Rawiller and while his chances will be dependent on the track pattern, drawing out could suit a type who needs momentum and galloping room.
The son of Ocean Park has the platform to contest this longer journey and while he'll need luck, he's still knocking on the door and the gelding carries 4kg less from his last run.
Race 5 - 2:50PM James Squire Handicap Tips (1800m)
Best: 10. Gilded Water. An interesting galloper on Australian debut for Ciaron Maher is Gilded Water, who was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II and he's owned by King Charles III.
A son of Fastnet rock who is out of a Galileo mare, the gelding impressed with a start three romp before failing as fav over Royal Ascot 2024 in a race that produced right subsequent winners.
Going straight to 1800m suggests there's intent here and I loved the 1200m Warwick Farm trial on October 29, where he cruised on the bridle and his work past the line was particularly strong.
Value: 11. Dances With Hooves. While she's up in class for this Saturday metro assignment, Dances With Wolves is a talented four-year-old with upside and the rise in trip suits.
They continued on with her throughout a long first prep, with a freshen-up after a shot at the stumps in the Australian Oaks and she rounded out that campaign with a Highway win.
1300m proved to sharp in her Rosehill return last month and after covering ground in her last two performances, she now draws low and Kerrin McEvoy takes back the reins.
Race 6 - 3:30PM Inglis Golden Gift Tips (1100m)
Best: 9. Tupakara. At an each-way price, Tupakara was the one we found in the Gimcrack Stakes and there was a late market push for the Trapeze Artist filly ahead of that debut.
While nothing went right via that October 5 tilt, she should take plenty from the run, where the youngster was held up and then after finding trouble, she picked up again late.
Tupakara looks to have come on from that first race day performance, having recorded a slick trial win at Warwick farm on October 29 and she can settle closer this time around from gate one.
Value: 5. West Of Swindon. Being out of a half-sister to Faulkner (three-time Group 1 winner) and Tanby, this Team Hawkes-trained first starter could get over more ground in time.
West Of Swindon does look sharp for this 1100m debut attempt though, with the colt having shown professionalism when winning a 792m Warwick Farm trial on October 29.
He showed everything you want to see in what looks a jump-and-run youngster, where he went to the front and settled nicely before producing a turn-of-foot when required.
Race 7 - 4:10PM Cincotta Chemist Hot Danish Stakes Tips (1400m)
Best: 2. Magic Time. I just wonder whether Magic Time now needs a few runs to get warm as an older mare and that was the case in autumn when taking out the All Aged Stakes third-up.
While the losing margins weren't large, the daughter of Hellbent was only just going prior to that Group 1 win when contesting Group 1 sprints first and second-up via the Newmarket Handicap and TJ Smith Stakes.
Belclare dictated and proved too good for Magic Time in The Invitation, but with another run under her belt, I'm banking on the class runner of the field to turn the tables despite a wide draw.
Value: 10. Navyonthehighway. On ratings, she's terribly in under the set weights conditions of this mares Group 2, however, we don't know the ceiling of Navyonthehighway.
The Queensland visitor has a tidy record, with four wins and a second from her five appearances, which includes a pair of impressive on-speed triumphs in two spring outings.
While it's not comparable to her rivals here, the form continues to stack up around the four-year-old in her home state and the engagement of gun on-speed rider Tim Clark is a positive.
Race 8 - 4:50PM Five Diamonds Tips (1800m)
Best: 11. Territory Express. He does have the talent to put it together one day and win a really good race, but Territory Express does himself no favours at the barriers.
He was slow away even by his standards in the Five Diamonds Prelude, where he did look at cracking bet at an early each-way price off a lovely return without luck and he just fell short in that lead-up.
There's plenty of speed on paper and with further improvement predicted up to 1800, he has a platform to be peaking third-up for this feature, although it's heart in the mouth areas for his supporters.
Value: 16. Kingswood. The Gavin Bedggood-trained grey has a start after the scratching's of Desert Lightning and Dockland, with this a better option than taking on Via Sistina in the Champions Stakes.
Kingswood is in superb touch for the new yard, with back-to-back wins recorded in Victoria and he still looks on an upward spiral being only third-up vs many rivals who are well exposed.
He handled the rise to Group 3 company last time with ease and while it was only a BM78, he made light work of Alma Rise at Sandown and that progressive mare has won her last two.
Race 9 - 5:25PM Petaluma Handicap Tips (1200m)
Best: 9. Midnight Opal. Although he completed two September trials ahead of his October 16 return, which included a heat win at Newcastle, those hit-outs suggested that he would need to run fresh.
Nothing went right for Midnight Opal in that Warwick farm return, where the son of Deep Field was ridden cold and all he found was trouble when angling for a gap in the run home.
He's each-way odds vs Fire Star, who comfortably won that October 16 event, but there's more upside with this gelding and anything resembling his second-up Darby Munro effort last prep would win this.
Value: 1. Snapback. He deserves to be big price after tiring late for a last-of-five finish when returning at Randwick-Kensington, although that was a hot midweek affair.
A smart Briasa saluted as $1.45 fav should in that 1250m BM88 contest and the other three runners that finished ahead of Snapback all had prior black-type references around them.
He is coming back off a long spell and there's strong form throughout his two and three-year-old days, which includes two Group 1 tilts and he wasn't disgraced in either of those races.
Race 10 - 6:05PM Kia Ora Prague Handicap Tips (1400m)
Best: 1. Rock Empire. He's a typical tough and one-paced trier from the Waterhouse & Bott yard, and he's working his way through the grades early in his four-year-old season.
He does come back in distance after getting up over a mile last start, but the entire has completed a slick tick over trial since that October 28 performance and he overcame trouble in that victory.
The proven weight carrier is building a good affinity with jockey Adam Hyeronimus and while this is the strongest race he's seen all prep, it's still very winnable for Rock Empire, who is the main speed influence.
Value: 12. Rapbidash. I thought that connections might be looking for something a touch easier, although Rapbidash is going well and this could set-up favourably third-up.
After a good return when unsuited by the race shape on the Kensington circuit, the daughter of Supido was an eye-catcher from back in the field behind an in-form Spanish Fox.
A senior hoop going on now is a big positive and in what could be a sprint for home given the lack of speed outside of the fav, she's one who could produce a turn-of-foot off a soft run.
