Rosehill Tips September 9

Race 1 - 11:50AM Midway Handicap Tips (1200m)

Best: 8. Bunker Hut. Darby Racing forked out 155k for this son of Savabeel via the June Inglis (online) sales, although he stays under the care of trainer Michael Freedman, with a Midway placement indicating intent fresh.

Although he had to step up to a mile to break his maiden 12 months ago, Bunker Hut proved as effective over the shorter trips last prep and that included a second via a slashing April return over 1100m.

He rounded that most recent campaign out with a midweek triumph over 1300m and suited by 1200m here off a fair trial, he should get every chance from a kind draw here.

Value: 9. Bundeena. While he bolted in second-up over 1300m last time in before a pair of seven-furlong attempts, I suspect 1200m is closer to the mark for Bundeena, rather than stretching him out.

Off a July 28 trial win, he was specked first-up over 1000m at Warwick Farm and while that journey is too slick, he was doing his best very late in the piece after being held-up early in the straight.

In an attempt to find the faster lanes out wide, he was kept out of trouble second-up, but wide and without cover took away his turn-of-foot, so there were excuses.

Race 2 - 12:25PM TAB Highway Handicap Tips (1400m)

Best: 8. Take The Kitty. After opening his winter campaign with back-to-back victories at Murwillumbah, this son of Star Witness hasn't had the best of luck in three Highway appearances.

Take The Kitty struggled to muster early speed in his first Sydney outing, where he rattled home for third after eventually getting clear at the 200m and he was again stuck in traffic on July 29 at Randwick.

In his first 1400m try on August 26, he saw backsides before taking a tight gap at the 200m and undoubtedly should've won that, while gate five instead of a rails draw is a tick.

Value: 12. Miss Thatcher. She's another with a hard luck story from the August 26 Highway here, with Miss Thatcher held up behind Take The Kitty and an inside run came when it was all over.

That followed a midfield finish over the Rosehill 1300m on August 12, where she was forced to spot them a start from a wide draw and while never in contention, she was strong late.

The Tim Martin-trained mare has won two of nine starts, while she's been competitive in all five Highway attempts to date and like Take The Kitty, she's due for some luck.

Miss Thatcher - $8.50Rosehill Race Twobet now

Race 3 - 1:00PM Goffs Orby Sale Handicap Tips (2400m)

Best: 1. Too Much Caviar. An honest trier from the Waterhouse & Bott yard, Too Much Caviar is short enough at even money given his limitations, but the map is very kind to him in this event.

Too Much Caviar has gate one and as the only speed influence in the race, jockey Regan Bayliss can dictate and given he was a month between runs a fortnight ago, he'll only strip fitter here.

The six-year-old narrowly lost a close duel to Wineglass Bay via that most recent run, but he put a big space on third and in a race that's no harder, he couldn't be better placed.

Value: 4. Olympic Gaze. He has been somewhat of a frustrating horse for punters over the journey, but given he used to mix his efforts, Olympic Gaze is arguably in career-best form this prep.

The key to his last-start victory was staying on the rails and settling a shade closer than usual, as he has been set some big tasks in his time when back in slowly run middle-distance races.

It's been over two years since the Paul Perry runner saluted over a staying trip, but he has a good platform and with another well-timed ride, he can figure.

Race 4 - 1:35PM Ranvet Handicap Tips (1500m)

Best: 11. Venelope. I can make good cases for Unspoken, Gracilistlya and Venelope, but now finally drawing a gate over a suitable trip and with the blinkers on, I'll lean towards the Maher & Eustace runner.

After showing potential in two summer starts via her first prep, Venelope was terrific on return at the midweeks and while she again made inroads second-up, staying at 1300m didn't suit.

While the 1600m was a positive third-up at Randwick, the daughter of Kingman simply got too far back and with a soft draw here on the 52kg minimum, she gets her chance.

Venelope - $5.50Rosehill Race Fourbet now
18+ only. Ts and Cs apply.

Value: 10. Bluff 'N' Bluster. As a galloper who needs a lot of favours to win, he often gets overlooked, but don't let the 65-rating fool you, as his last two wins have both come in this grade.

Those victories include a January 21 triumph and although he was well exposed before that prep, Bluff 'N' Bluster arguably ticked off a career-best campaign over summer and early autumn.

He always takes a few runs to his straps and in an on-speed dominated affair last start, he was back and attempted a run in the worst going, so don't look too much into that.

Race 5 - 2:10PM NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Handicap Tips (1800m)

Best: 2. Marquess. Although he receives a 3kg weight penalty from a narrow last start victory at Rosehill, Marquess does stay in a BM78 and up to 1800m third-up on Saturday, he could spike.

After landing good bets fresh, the Godolphin gelding was a little flat second-up despite winning and as a galloper that is bred to get a trip, there's still improvement to come, especially off a long break.

From gate one, he can stalk the leader/early fav in Howgoodareyou and while his overall ceiling is still very much an unknown, he should measure up in better races than this.

Marquess - $4.20Rosehill Race Fivebet now
18+ only. Don't let the game play you. Stay in control. Gamble responsibly.

Value: 4. Ausbred Rising Sun. Out to 1800m third-up, we'll get a true gauge on the son of Maurice here, with the four-year-old a little disappointing this prep given the promise he showed last season.

After winning two of his first three outings over the summer, Ausbred Rising Sun finished third over this trip at Group 2 level behind a smart Pericles and beat some handy horses in that tilt.

He was plain in a slowly run affair fresh and while the gelding didn't exactly kick the door down over a mile last start, it was the performance of a galloper looking for ground.

Race 6 - 2:45PM Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes Tips (1200m)

Best: 5. Zapateo. It's a much more competitive race than the market suggests, but with a gun map and having smartly dodged a hot Concorde Stakes last week, Zapateo is arguably the safest option.

The Godolphin mare was a weapon in these Sydney mares sprints last season, going 3/3 against her own sex in NSW and she was unlucky not to land a Group 1 via the Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide.

Her two lead-up trials ahead of this have been superb, which includes Tuesday's hit-out over the 900m at Rosehill, where she matched a Group 1 sprinter in Buenos Noches.

Value: 2. Espiona. After a few frustrating preps following a brilliant start to her career, Espiona turned a corner last campaign when backing up second-up triumph with a Group 1 Coolmore Classic win.

While those last two victories came in the 1400m-1500m range, she has been thereabouts in all fresh outings over 1200m and her lead-up trials suggest she can run a race fresh.

Nash Rawiller sticks from the two August hit-outs and while she'll likely settle out the back from a wide draw over this trip, she certainly has the class to chime in late.

Espiona - $19.00Rosehill Race Sixbet now

Race 7 - 3:20PM ACY Securities Ming Dynasty Quality Tips (1400m)

Best: 5. Encap. Not only is Encap one of the best maiden runners getting around at present, the son of Capitalist has been unlucky in all three outings this prep, but has rattled home each time.

A cold ride fresh over 1100m was understandable, however, wide draws have forced their hand via his last two attempts, so the onus is firmly on Brett Prebble to use barrier one early here.

There's perhaps a handful or so of rivals with a bit more upside, but many of them are looking to peak over 1600m-2000m, whereas 1400m could be right on Encap's limit.

Encap - $4.90Rosehill Race Sevenbet now
18+ only. Ts and Cs apply.

Value: 9. Vomo Island. Given he was a good thing beaten when runner-up to Inhibitions on debut, it is surprising that he's still a maiden, albeit Vomo Island is still a work in progress.

The son of Dundeel has started fav in all four starts, which includes a third over the Newcastle 1300m on return and while rolled as a $1.60 fav there, it wasn't a bad performance.

He's bringing a string of short starting prices around handy opposition and while he's frustrating punters, do you want him to go around at 40/1 without having something on?

Vomo Island - $41.00Rosehill Race Sevenbet now

Race 8 - 3:55PM James Squire Run To The Rose Tips (1200m)

Best: 3. Libertad. He remained unbeaten at start three with a return triumph in the San Domenico on August 26, which made it a pair of Group 3 wins for the three-year-old.

Libertad's two winter trials indicated that he'd need the run fresh and jockey Chad Schofield echoed those thoughts a fortnight ago after the first-up win, which is an encouraging sign going forward.

While this is the first time against some of the A graders of this crop, there wasn't a sprinting standout among the two-year-olds last season and to date, Libertad has been bombproof.

Value: 4. Don Corleone. Although his peak performance came at start three when unlucky as runner-up in the Blue Diamond, Don Corleone remained competitive in three subsequent Sydney runs.

His Group 1 Sires' second behind Militarize suggested he could run 1400m and while he's likely geared towards a Golden Rose peak, the Snowden colt has been versatile in regards to distance.

A galloper who never set the world on fire via his early trials, Don Corleone has worked stronger ahead of this campaign, having won his latest heat at Rosehill when the blinkers were on.

Race 9 - 4:35PM Toyota Forklifts Theo Marks Stakes Tips (1300m)

Best: 9. Argentia. Joe Pride has this daughter of Frankel ticking over beautifully, with Argentia recording arguably the run of the Missile Stakes, although that was a very messy race behind I Am Me.

While she covered ground second-up in the Show County, Argentia is showing more tactical speed for the new yard and with 1300m in mind, that last start was about the perfect lead-up.

With cover and as a gun sprinter should do, Buenos Noches had the better turn-of-foot on August 19, but fit vs middle distance horses here, she can produce the best sprint.

Argentia - $5.50Rosehill Race Ninebet now
New customers only. 18+ T&Cs and wagering requirements apply.

Value: 12. Flying Crazy. He might be right on his ceiling here at Group 3 level, however, Flying Crazy is a three-time listed that's always been a little underrated and he's dangerous when conditions allow.

They were looking to build into the prep last time in, but with 1300m-1400m the optimal distance for the five-year-old, I felt they stayed around 1100m-1200m a run too long in March.

Even though 1100m is on the sharp side, he was still finishing off vs the likes of Andermatt and Midwest, which shows his brilliance and at huge odds, I wouldn't dismiss him.

Race 10 - 5:15PM Precise Air Handicap Tips (1100m)

Best: 3. Extremely Lucky. Having missed a BM88 the previous Saturday, which was taken out by a stablemate (Olentia), the market then took a set against Extremely Lucky ahead of his debut Chris Waller.

While a clean scope allowed him to start seven days later in the Group 3 Show County, Extremely Lucky clearly wasn't 100% and with a Soft 7 track also not ideal, that return was okay considering.

For a galloper that was unproven at 1200m, he'll be better suited for now coming back to 1100m and with the blinkers also on, I expect a much-improved showing second-up.

Value: 1. On The Lead. The key to this sprinter is firm ground and showing a sharp dash late in a 1000m-1100m event, which was the case when saluting at Sandown back in January.

On The Lead backed up that BM84 triumph with seconds behind Star Patrol and Kallos, who are both stakes class sprinters, so his class should be respected first-up in a BM88.

It's admittedly a strong race for this benchmark and he's not going to be easy to place with a rating of 90, but there's plenty of speed and Brett Prebble has a good record on him.

Rosehill Quaddie Tips:

Race 8: 1,2,3,4,9
