Rosehill Tips November 27

Race 1 - 12:20PM Elite Sand & Soil Handicap Tips (1100m)

Selections: 16,1,11,10.

16. VANCOUVER'S CROWN likely gets a start (Old Newmarket running Friday, no rider for Gendarmerie), a colt that raced very greenly in his debut when taken to the rails and was never able to build through his gears, which he did with ease in the lead-up trial. This is a raffle, but he should improve at start two and drawing out may well suit.

1. Hard To Say was green on debut, yet found the line behind a smart Sejardan on debut, the subsequent Golden Gift winner. Wide draw the knock, but the November 17 trial was far better than his Scone hit-out, so he looks to have come on.

11. Controlocracy had a lot more to offer in a Warwick Farm trial on November 16, working the best in that heat to my eye. although the time was nothing flash. She draws well in barrier five for Brock Ryan.

10. Acapella Sun was also looked after in that same Warwick Farm trial and eased back, before flashing home on a heavy track in her prior workout. Could be the pick of the blowouts ($27.00 @ Sportsbet).

Race 2 - 12:55PM TAB Highway Handicap Tips (1200m)

Selections: 1,18,6,4.

1. PARTICIPATOR looks very progressive, defeating Verbek on debut before resuming with a dominant victory in October, where he beat nothing, but certainly did it in style. The heavy track is a big unknown (did trial up well on a Soft 6) given both wins have come on good ground, but he draws well and this isn't an overly deep Highway.

18. Extravagent Lad sat three-wide the trip and still walked in via a Gundagai maiden first-up, which was on a Heavy 9 and that race has produced two winners, including Super Helpful, who bolted in by more than six lengths on Monday.

6. Zoukina won a Doomben maiden first-up in January on soft ground and the subsequent Class 2/3 midweek form in Brisbane should stack up here. She got home well in a November 1 trial behind She Can Sing, a city class sprinter.

4. Costas should start shorter ($63.00 @ BoomBet) with the conditions, having not finished outside the top three in six heavy track runs. His last win was on a Heavy 10, a near five length victory when carrying 61.5kg.

Race 3 - 1:30PM Midway Handicap Tips (2000m)

Selections: 4,3,2,7.

4. REBEL RAMA gets back the services of Tommy Berry, who saluted on her first-up and she won over the Rosehill 2000m last prep before the QLD Oaks. Ran the best closing splits over 1800m third-up and has the perfect flatform now to launch. Best stayer in the field, wet track is a tick and if they can make ground, she looks awfully hard to beat.

3. Karmazone may well be the most talented horse in the race, and he's back to a Midway after being backed at big price in a BM78. He was disappointing to the eye, albeit it was a hard meeting to be running on out wide at Newcastle.

2. Jesse James recorded big victories both first and third-up. Going solely off that November 17 run, Rebel Rama should nail him at 2000m, but this gelding was more than five weeks between runs there, so should improve fitness-wise.

7. Unwavering Faith got lucky in the Cessnock Cup, although that was on a Good 4 and I do think she's much more effective on a wet track. Might lack some class of the above three, but is hard-fit and very genuine.

Race 4 - 2:05PM ATC Cup Tips (2000m)

Selections: 5,1,2,7.

5. MIGHTYBEEL is one that I've always had an opinion of and now as a four-year-old, is maturing as Waller takes him through the grades. He'd do a number on this lot on a good track with his turn-of-foot, but the knock is that he's yet to see heavy ground and while J-Mac jumping off isn't ideal, that's just weight related (struggles to ride at 54kg).

1. Polly Grey won three stakes races over the autumn (all on wet tracks) and is the class runner of the field. Put in a shocker first-up, which was attributed to a firm track and now goes 1400m to 2000m with a tick-over trial. J-Mac jumps on.

2. Blue Soldier improved out of sight to out-tough Wheelhouse in the Ladies Day Cup on a Heavy track and was honest in The Gong, albeit a little one-paced staying at the mile. Goes forward and he might be looking for 2000m now.

7. Grove Ferry was terrible on a heavy track in his Australian debut and improved at Kembla when getting home okay with 61kg. Is down in the weights, but hasn't done enough to justify the $3.60-$3.70 quote.

Race 5 - 2:40PM Elitegroup. Sydney Handicap Tips (1100m)

Selections: 8,1,10,2.

4. MR MOSAIC resumes off no public trials, albeit that was the case last prep when leading throughout on a Soft 7 and now returns as a gelding. The $4.20 SP second-up versus Enchanted Heart and Lost And Running stands out for a BM78, and he was ridden a little too cute that day. Speedy and unbeaten first-up, he's a starting point in a tricky race.

8. Irish Angel is no world beater, but the testing conditions brings her right into this. She recorded a fresh win last campaign on a Soft 7, while she has a win and a second from two attempts on a Heavy 10. Wetter the better for this mare.

1. Shadow Crush has put together a tidy record to date and competed in a few deeper races at the back-end of his last campaign. Both lead-up trials have been very good, but he hasn't won anything worse than a Soft 6.

10. Najmaty looked as though she could be anything early, but hasn't gone with it. This is the first time back to benchmark level since her maiden, although her one soft track attempt was a shocker.

Race 6 - 3:20PM Elite Haulage Handicap Tips (1800m)

Selections: 5,9,1,2.

5. NEW KING grinded away with 61.5kg on a leader's track last start and I loved the second-up run where he picked-up again late. After 12 months off, he should be near his top now with three runs under the belt and drops to 58kg for a slight rise in grade. Made light work of Frosty Rocks in his last heavy track attempt, which reads superbly for this.

9. Media Starguest can be placed much softer with a rating of 69, however, he'll relish the wet ground and his closing splits from an impossible position were okay second-up. The fresh effort when surging late off a wide run was a beauty.

1. Cisco Bay was well placed to win back to this grade at Newcastle, but never got a look at them as he was held-up for the entire run home. Loses the 2kg claim here and will get back from the wide draw, so will need luck.

2. Lord Ardmore defeated Mightybeel two back in a brutally run race and is well in with to a BM78 with the 2kg claim. Expect them to take a sit after leading at Newcastle, where Mightybeel turned the tables.

Race 7 - 4:00PM Chandon Starlight Stakes Tips (1100m)

Selections: 6,9,1.2.

6. MAMARAGAN promised the world early (should've won a Sires) then went off the boil in his three-year-old season. Prior to missing the start on November 2 and flashing home, he trialled superbly and has again worked very strongly since that Randwick attempt. Very open race, but he may be turning the corner and was favourite in that most recent effort.

9. Snapdancer is likely on another Magic Millions path, but she came to handy early in that last prep, winning first and second-up, while the Heavy 8 trial on November 8 was excellent. I think a Sangster/Goodwood path can see her land a Group 1 next year.

1. Southern Lad has always been hard to catch, although he's won either side of a spell and defeated Phobetor in the Ramornie, who subsequently won a Group 2 in Sydney. Not as effective on heavy ground, but he can still get through it.

2. Tambo's Mate arrives off back-to-back Brisbane wins and is undefeated in four attempts on soft/heavy ground. Is spotting some slick rivals plenty of weight, although the soft draw under J-Mac helps offset that.

Race 8 - 4:40PM Petaluma Festival Stakes Tips (1500m)

Selections: 13,3,11,10.

13. BRUTALITY was frustrating off a flashing light run second-up last prep, and many jumped off prior to his sixth run, where he upset Great House. On a tough Newcastle meeting to make ground, his recent second-up effort had merit and now the blinkers go back on. He's a Heavy 10 winner, plummets in the weights and has won 2/3 attempts at Rosehill.

3. Order Again generally has his races spaced out nowadays and resumes off a nice trial on November 8. Was competing in similar races last prep and was a good thing licked in the Scone Cup, which he contested first-up. He handles most conditions.

11. Lina's Hero had every favour when winning a similar event in May, but again draws for a soft run with a low weight. Goes 1100m to 1500m second-up, but it was a nice return behind Southern Lad and the subsequent trial was excellent.

10. Ellsberg did enough to win fresh before taking the Golden Eagle path, where he only whacked away. That's the right form, but is now on a testing track and overall, he's a little overrated. A poor betting option here at around $2.80.

Race 9 - 5:20PM Elite Turf Projects Handicap Tips (1300m)

Selections: 4,5,2,3.

4. BROOKSPIRE is a half-sister to the 2020 Railway Stakes winner Inspirational Girl and she ticked the heavy track box in style first-up in August when spotting 4kg to Shibli in the process, who won three of his next five (including two in this grade). Has clearly had some issues, but she's been freshened right up and Nash will push forward from out wide.

5. Kobe Rocks still has upside as a four-year-old and has won two of four heavy track attempts. Looks very forward off two trial wins and draws for a gun run under Josh Parr. Good each-way chance at a double figure quote ($13.00 @ Ladbrokes).

2. Expat is suited resuming at 1300m, having been beaten for speed over shorter trips early last campaign before finding winning form on heavy tracks. Her second trial on November 16 was a searching one, which should bring her on.

3. Blaze A Trail was a strong fresh winner in his first start for Maher & Eustace and is no doubt better than BM78 grade. His prior efforts on soft ground is the reason he isn't favourite and is yet to be seen on a heavy track.

Race 10 - 6:00PM Elite Quarry Products Handicap Tips (1500m)

Selections: 8,5,9,11.

8. FORMENTERA had every chance third-up, but the 1900m saw him out and to be fair, he was spotting plenty of weight to the quinella. Won first-up off a long spell with 62kg, then was okay second-up in a messy race and now the blinkers go back on, which he wore in a maiden win on a heavy track. It's about the most open race on the card, but this looks a better set-up.

5. Blesk should be suited now to 1500m and is hard to fault this prep, winning second-up and only just missed fresh to Much Much Better, who won a BM88 by a big space at Newcastle. Heavy track is the unknown, but the $7 (via bet365) is a fair price.

9. Francesco Guardi was heavily backed second-up in a narrow miss at Rosehill, but there no excuses off a gun run and there's more depth to this. Will again get the right run and along with a 3kg drop in the weights, J-Mac jumps on.

11. Artero has plenty of upside and returned to the winner's stall second-up with a kill at the provincials. They scratched from Canterbury with Nash on to compete here with just 51kg. Worth including at big odds ($19.00 @ betstar).
