Randwick Tips September 7

Race 1 - 11:50AM Midway Handicap Tips (1400m)

Best: 11. Annulus. It's a wide open Midway and at bolters odds is Annulus, a galloper who has been competitive multiple times at this level and he's ticking over fairly well.

After a solid resumption, the six-year-old overcame trouble to finish fourth-of-ten over seven furlongs and coming out of a fast-run race second-up should top him off nicely.

Annulus is now right down in the weights (4.5kg less than his last run) and he's open to further improvement (has two wins and a second from four third-up attempts).

Value: 1. Cheerful Legend. Benjamin Osmond gets a chance to atone on Cheerful Legend following an unlucky fresh run and he draws low for this assignment.

He was severely hampered with by a rival who broke down via his August 24 return and given the hopeless position he was in, the gelding finished off well considering.

The son of Shalaa was snagged back prior to that and was keen/uncomfortable in the run as a result, and with a few more favours second-up, he can give this a shake.

Race 2 - 12:25PM Precise Air Handicap Tips (1100m)

Best: 1. Lost. This is a touch harder than the BM78 that she was defeated in last start as a drifting fav, however, Lost clearly wasn't in the mood for that Rosehill outing.

The Godolphin mare was never comfortable in the run, having tired late as a result of racing keenly throughout the early and middle stages, while she also pulled up lame.

Lost ran good closing splits prior to that via a stylish Warwick Farm return victory and if she can settle with cover third-up, then she's worth another chance at $5-$6.

Value: 8. Bindi's Choice. She wasn't able to progress last time in following a good start to the prep, but her recent trial works suggests she can produce again fresh.

Bindi's Choice showed potential early, with decent runs in strong maidens before recording back-to-back wins and she was then tried at Group 3 level before a spell.

She'll settle off the speed in the small field under Jason Collett, but the five-year-old has a turn-of-foot and down in the weights, she's not hopeless at a big price.

Race 3 - 1:00PM TAB Highway Handicap Tips (1200m)

Best: 4. Melody Again. This Scott Singleton-trained mare threw away her first-up Highway tilt, where Melody Again was wide and off the track over the Rosehill 1200m.

With a host of gear changes and trial completed on August 15, she made her return in a BM78 and performed admirably to record a third-of-eleven finish at long odds.

Melody Again is much better placed back to Highway company third-up and although she's drawn out, she'll aim to settle off them and come late off a fast tempo.
Value: 7. Point Basse. It was an excellent first prep from the lightly raced entire, with three wins from four starts and he was a good thing beaten when runner-up at start two.

Point Basse was a notable drifter first-up on August 13 at Rosehill and he ran accordingly, with the five-year-old slow away early and he was never in contention.

Blinkers come off and a tongue tie goes on (choked down fresh?), and while he was a late scratching last Friday at Scone, it's worth noting that there money for him there.

Race 4 - 1:35PM Sydney City Lexus CTC Cup Tips (2400m)

Best: 6. Strathay. It's a shocker of a race and while Strathay is technically well up in grade off a BM78 win, the Chris Waller-trained galloper carries 7kg less from his last win.

The son of Preferment is now up against out of form and/or unfit stayers, with Queensland visitor Tapildoodledo the only rival who is in any sort of touch.

Strathay showed a lovely turn-of-foot with 60kg to a win over this track/trip last start and that brilliance down in the weights could be the difference vs plodders in a small field.

Value: 2. Sir Lucan. He can mix his form and with that, Sir Lucan could improve out of sight here after being well held when returning from a freshen-up at Group 3 level.

The Waterhouse & Bott-trained import took out the Winter Cup over this trip on June 15 before a break and he arrived to that off a heavy defeat seven days prior.

With a run under the belt, he improved when 1800m to 2200m second-up in May to place in the Gosford Cup and that form through Hezashocka reads well for this.

Race 5 - 2:10PM City Tattersalls Patrick Campion Tips (1600m)

Best: 7. Roma Avenue. The least appealing race for punters on the entire program is this BM94, which sees Roma Avenue up in grade after bouncing back second-up.

While he had to drop down to a poor BM78 when saluting as a 30/1 outsider, the gelding had cardiac arrythmia following his return flop in a BM88, where he was $8.

The six-year-old is still lightly raced and outside of his August 17 triumph, he hadn't recorded a first or second-up victory, while he carries 5.5kg less from that last win.

Value: 6. Floating. He could be a run short here second-up, however, out ot a mile suits off what was a pass mark first-up when contesting the Goulburn Cup.

The Puissance de Lune progeny are often late maturing types and Floating looks no exception, having found career best form last season as a five-year-old.

Although he was competitive in the Group 3 Manion Cup before a spell, he's not an out-and-out stayer, with the gelding most effective in the 1600m-2000m range.

Race 6 - 2:45PM Darley Furious Stakes Tips (1200m)

Best: 1. Manaal. She's super genuine and while Manaal was beaten fair and square on return in the Silver Shadow Stakes, she was only narrowly denied there.

In a similar affair here, she heads Ameena in the early market despite that rival getting the better of her fresh and bookies are basing that off more suitable weight conditions.

Manaal now meets her opposition at level weights and with a 3kg weight swing over Ameena from their August 24 clash, she can turn the tables this Saturday.
Value: 4. El Morzillo. It'll be interesting to see how El Morzillo comes back this campaign after a decent amount of racing in her two-year-old season (eight starts).

The Queenslander showed potential throughout that period, which included two unlucky Sydney appearances and both of those outings were at Randwick.

She was tried over further at back-end of her last prep and while El Morzillo wasn't disgraced in those Eagle Farm outings, the filly looks a lot more effective at 1200m.

Race 7 - 3:20PM Southern Cross Group Concorde Stakes Tips (Race 7)

Best: 1. Giga Kick. The most interesting runner on a stacked Saturday is Giga Kick, with the Clayton Douglas-trained galloper resuming off a 12-month absence.

He was the leading sprinter in Australia prior to his sole last outing early last season, having an Everest victory and two Group 1 wins on the resume as a three-year-old.

He'll be blowing off cobwebs, however, given the issues after his last return effort when he supposedly underdone, expect Giga Kick to be more screwed down here (has trialled well).

Value: 3. Aft Cabin. Another lightly raced five-year-old is Aft Cabin and the Godolphin representative has been gelded ahead of his fifth racing campaign.

The ultimate gear change comes as a result of mixed form last season, with the son of Astern failing second and third-up last prep after an unlucky return over this trip.

That last first-up attempt was over this track/trip in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes and he should've won that, so there's no query over this short distance.

Race 8 - 3:55PM Daily Press Chelmsford Stakes Tips (1600m)

Best: 10. Zardozi. Visually, it was just even fresh effort in the Group 1 Winx Stakes, but given her prior first-up performances, that 1400m resumption was a definite pass mark.

Zardozi was defeated by much bigger margins in her previous two fresh appearances and she quickly atoned after her last autumn return when saluting second-up.

This is a weak edition of the Chelmsford Stakes and while it's a much easier task than the Winx Stakes, she gets weight off all of her rivals via this 1600m Group 2.
Value: 3. Nonconformist. This Victorian hasn't always been the easiest to catch, however, he's been competitive in stronger company and he's often dangerous first-up.

The last time that he was in a winnable return race was the Group 2 Blamey Stakes over this trip in March 23 and he bolted in with that Flemington event.

His lead-up work ahead of this fresh attempt has been encouraging, with three jump-outs completed and Nonconformist has the class to figure here at decent odds.

Race 9 - 4:35PM Ikon Tramway Stakes Tips (1400m)

Best: 8. Amelia's Jewel. The ex-WA star is on stable debut for Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald and she's well placed kicking off at seven furlongs on Saturday.

Her only first-up defeat was a $1.60 chance last time in over 1100m, a distance that's too short for Amelia's Jewel and the short sprinting campaign in autumn didn't work.

In what was good time for the Hawkesbury set on August 26, she won her last trial and was given a decent workout in the process to have her ready for this fresh tilt.

Value: 14. Arctic Glamour. One of the few who looks genuinely targeted at the Tramway Stakes is Arctic Glamour, who was an eye-catcher on return last month.

There were other options in-between the Missile Stakes on August 10 and this Group 2, with connections deciding on this race straight after that fresh run.

While I'm not convinced with her over a mile, 1400m could prove to be the sweet spot for Arctic Glamour and she'll look to launch late off what should be a fast tempo.

Race 10 - 5:10PM Salix Handicap Tips (1200m)

Best: 8. Thunderlips. It's a very open race to finish the Randwick card and in what's a decent affair for BM78 standards, there's plenty with genuine claims in this.

Thunderlips is among the leading chances, a four-year-old who was doing his best work late fresh and he found winning form second and third-up last campaign.

1100m is touch sharp for the Bjorn Baker-trained galloper, but a strong six furlongs suits and any improvement off the fresh effort should see him in the mix here.
Value: 14. Althoff. He proved the slashing debut run at bolters odds was no fluke when taking out the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic at start two in May.

The son of Written Tycoon was looking for the paddock at start three, which is no surprise given the travel north and a Queensland victory on testing ground flattened him.

His trial work ahead of this return has been sound, with Althoff not knocked around in either of those August heats and he'll do no work in transit from gate three.
