Randwick Tips August 10

Race 1 - 11:30AM Midway Handicap Tips (1100m)

Best: 5. Well Timed. He didn't show much in four runs over his first two preps and after the ultimate gear change, Well Timed was a different galloper last campaign.

The son of Nicconi recorded back-to-back wins over February and March, with the latest a brave triumph over a useful Broadway Bouncer, as he covered ground in that performance.

Well Timed was still honest via third in a Provincial Qualifier, although 1400m on heavy ground just saw him out late and he's completed two good trials leading into this return.

Value: 11. Ces Soirees La. Following an even fresh run at Warwick Farm, this four-year-old was hard to miss second-up at Canterbury when rattling home from the rear.

Ces Soirees La finished third-of-eight in that July 24 outing and on what is a difficult track to circle a field on, she recorded the fastest last 200m of the entire meeting.

She was competitive via her only other Midway attempt, which was third-up over this track/trip last prep and she's right down in the weights with just 50kg (7kg less from her last run).

Race 2 - 12:05PM TAB Highway Handicap Tips (1000m)

Best: 10. Tai Lung. It's a very open Highway and at a bolters quote is Tai Lung, who is suited back to 1000m after covering ground over six furlongs here on July 6.

Her prior form was fine, which included a third and a fourth at this level and she arguably should've won the second-up appearance, as she was held-up at a key stage there.

All of her winning form has come in the 900m-1000m range and while she'll need luck in transit from gate 12, there's strong speed and Tai Lung can chime in late with just 53kg on her back.
Value: 6. Caribbean King. Although his winning strike rate isn't flash, this gelding is often thereabouts, having finished in the money 17 times from 30 career starts.

Following a quieter first winter trial, Caribbean King completed a stronger second workout on July 29 and he held off useful stablemate Rainbow Connection in the process.

Matthew Dunn and Nash Rawiller have a terrific record in Highways, and off a map that sees this six-year-old do no work in transit, a market push at double figure odds won't shock.

Race 3 - 12:40PM Inglis Yearling Entries Close 16 Aug Tips (1400m)

Best: 1. Invader Zim. I've been confident with Invader Zim in both starts this campaign and frustratingly going down by a pimple first-up, he atoned here on July 27.

This progressive four-year-old did find the fast lane via that latest showing, although he still had to make a long run off a slow speed and there's improvement to come here third-up.

He beat a talented and fitter Kerguelen in what just his fifth career start, while his most brilliant performance came in February before a spell, which was on firmer ground.

Value: 6. It's A Knockout. Interestingly, she was scratched from what looked a very winnable BM64 at Canterbury on Wednesday and she stays at 1400m for this BM72.

Her 1400m maiden on the July 17 Randwick-Kensington program went around one length faster than a handy BM72 later on that card and she led throughout in that debut win.

A subsequent winner has already been produced from her July 17 event and with the likely leader carrying 3kg less from her first start, she has to have some claims here.

Race 4 - 1:15PM TAB Handicap Tips (2400m)

Best: 1. Age Of Sail. Nash Rawiller will be eager to atone on Age Of Sail, a Kris Lees-trained import who is building into the prep nicely and he should've won last start.

Off two decent lead-up efforts and with the step out to 2400m suiting in that third-up attempt from Rosehill, the son of Frankel was respected in the market as a $2.60 fav.

Age Of Sail simply couldn't get clear when he needed to and after getting off heels approaching the 100m, it was an enormous effort to charge late for second after losing momentum earlier.
Value: 13. Fun Sunday. She was runner-up over this trip in a BM78 earlier this year, where the mare split Yankee Hussel and Yarrawonga, so she's certainly capable enough.

I was impressed with her trial work leading into the winter return, hence we were with her at decent odds first-up and after being specked late, she finished third after covering ground.

Fun Sunday was just fair last time after a solid second-up run, however, there's a platform now to be attacking these staying trips and could be dangerous down in the weights.

Race 5 - 1:50PM Ranvet Handicap Tips (1000m)

Best: 1. Our Kobison. It's only a small field, but it's a handy little sprint race and heading the market is Our Kobison and Dancing Alone, who are two progressive sprinters.

Both market fancies will be eyeing off stronger races later in their preps and over five furlongs fresh, Our Kobison might just have the edge going off his trial work in winter.

He won his last heat in slick time for the Wyong set on July 29 and while he couldn't land a hat-trick in March before a spell, that form through Tashi and Pereille has stood up.

Value: 3. Le Melody. This six-year-old is now under the care of Brett Cavanough, which is her third stable after campaigning for Stephen Jones and Cody Morgan was her first trainer.

Le Melody recorded some brilliant performances early when working through the lower grades and with colder tactics employed last spring, she won at city level in Brisbane.

She didn't progress last prep, which culminated in three tries at Listed level, but she's often dangerous when first-up and there'll be some residual fitness from early winter.

Race 6 - 2:25PM James Squire Handicap Tips (1200m)

Best: 1. Lady Of Luxury. Given she was coming out of stronger company, the late betting drift last start was a concern and the Bjorn Baker-trained galloper ran accordingly.

Lady Of Luxury simply didn't handle a testing Heavy 8 surface via that July 27 attempt, so I'm happy to forgive that performance and she's now back against her own sex.

Prior to that most recent showing, the mare had excuses when finding trouble in a BM88 here third-up and that followed a Listed tilt in QLD, where she was unlucky via a midfield finish.

Value: 5. Waverider Buoy. Off a plain Caulfield run and then a last start flop up the Flemington straight, a double figure quote was always going to be available for this mare.

A return to Sydney could easily spark an improved showing for Waverider Buoy, who was good on return here in January when fourth-of-fourteen and that was in a stronger race.

That form around Fleetwood and The Black Cloud reads superbly for this, while she was consistent in this grade throughout last winter, which culminated in a Randwick win.

Race 7 - 3:00PM Toyota Forklifts Handicap Tips (1600m)

Best: 8. Arts. The most open race on the entire program opens Saturday's Randwick Quaddie and a field job for the first leg could be the play if going wider.

A contender at a big price is Arts, who was fair on return over 1300m when forced to the worst part of the track and the five-year-old is suited up to a mile now second-up.

She somewhat sums up the Edward Cummings yard, i.e. hard to catch and hit-or-miss, but Arts is talented and her second lead-up trial going into the recent return was encouraging.
Value: 3. Deficit. He was too bad to be true third-up on July 13 and along with being freshened up as a result of that failure, Deficit is back in grade to a BM78 here.

The son of Snitzel was ticking over okay via his two June performances, where he was set a task each time on heavy ground and a firmer track on Saturday is another positive.

He generally saves his best for over the Magic Millions period, however, his last prep form either side of that Gold Coast tilt is strong enough for this (fourths in a BM88 and Listed race).

Race 8 - 3:35PM Darley Missile Stakes Tips (1200m)

Best: 9. Arctic Glamour. Ryan & Alexiou are a noted fresh stable and they have the resuming Arctic Glamour here first-up off a quiet lead-up trial, although visors weren't worn in that July 23 hit-out.

Also, this yard often sends them around in private Rosehill jump-outs, so aside from her public outing last month, I'm confident that she would've completed another trial/jump-out.

While she wasn't able to progress last autumn after a promising spring campaign, Arctic Glamour was still competitive in strong races and perhaps she's best suited at 1200m-1400m.

Value: 1. Loch Eagle. After nice first winter trial at Newcastle on July 18, Loch Eagle was more workmanlike in his second hit-out at Wyong, where the gelding was well-held in third via a 1000m heat.

He's a blinkers horse on race day and they weren't applied for either of his winter trials, so I wouldn't look too much into that last performance, albeit it was still a pass mark.

A fast-run six furlongs gives Loch Eagle a sniff in Saturday's return assignment, while along with having a decent first-up record, he generally saves his best for Royal Randwick.

Race 9 - 4:15PM Precise Air Premier's Cup Prelude Tips (1800m)

Best: 9. Aramco. The market has this right with Golden Path and Aramco fighting for favouritism, and with upside along being down in the weights, I'm leaning towards the latter.

An honest galloper who is now under the care of Chris Waller (ex-Price & Kent Jnr), Aramco backed up a strong stable debut when saluting over this track/trip on July 13.

There's clearly improvement to come for a horse that's still building into the prep, as he veered out in that second-up attempt and cost himself a decent winning margin in the process.
Value: 3. Manzoice. Although he hasn't saluted since taking out the 2022 Victoria Derby, did show better signs last campaign after failing to produce in his prior two preps.

The highlight was a second in the Group 3 Manion Cup and he had been working into that 2400m Group 2 with solid performances over shorter trips (two of them at Listed level.

His lead-up work this time in somewhat piques my interest over 1800m fresh, as Manzoice has been much sharper in those July heats when compared to his summer lead-up's.

Race 10 - 4:55PM Hyland Race Colours Handicap Tips (1200m)

Best: 6. Willaidow. Given Iron Man beat him fair him fair and square on July 20, Willaidow arguably should be a little longer in the market, but there's more in his favour this time.

Along with having a 2.5kg weight swing on Iron Man in his favour from that last clash, the six-year-old strips fitter and a late betting drift in that fresh tilt suggested that he'd need the run.

The market baced up the visuals, as Willaidow was travelling like the winner at the 250m before peaking on his run and if anything, he appeared to be coming back on the line.

Value: 2. Cloudland. It's strange that they dodged a perfect first-up assignment on Wednesday, but we need to respect this placement given his strong fresh record.

Cloudland didn't progress last prep after a third behind Territory Express and Willaidow, but that's still good fresh form for a horse who hasn't missed the top three in five first-up runs.

His December 1 win though Louisville (subsequent BM78 winner who also placed twice at BM88 level) is another decent reference and he won his last trial (good heat) on July 18.
