Randwick Tips March 2

Race 1 - 12:30PM Midway Handicap Tips (1100m)

Best: 8. Vindication. I'm not surprised an early double figure quote has been taken for Vindication, who caught the eye last week when getting home in a lead-up trial.

Fresh appears to be the key to this sprinter, who bolted in with 60kg despite sitting wide first-up at Wyong last prep and he contested a metro BM72 following that.

The gelding split Mojo Magic and Smashing Eagle there, which is very good reading for a Midway and from barrier six, he maps for a nice run just off them under Reagan Bayliss.

Value: 17. Artful Persuasion. Mitch Beer is no fool and had there been any query regarding this youngster's abilities, then he would have been more than happy go to a weaker provincial race.

Artful Persuasion arrives off a stylish debut win at the Sapphire Coast and while that victory was never in doubt, the son of Flying Artie still did a bit wrong in the process.

He's one of the main speed influences in the field and from a low draw with just 52kg on his back, he could simply be the progressive horse of the field.

Race 2 - 1:05PM James Squire Handicap Tips (1200m)

Best: 3. Our Kobison. On paper there's more depth to this BM88 than the one he contested on February 3, however, Our Kobison did put in a career best in that last start win.

It's always impressive when a sprinter can do the work at both ends and no only did he do that when saluting third-up, he opened up a decent margin in the process.

It'll be interesting to see what the betting does like with a few of these threats, but being the in-form and hard-galloper who has gate one, J-Mac is aboard the deserving fav.
Value: 8. Union Army. After getting on the board for summer with a third-up win at Rosehill, Union Army was too bad to be true last time and he's been freshened as a result.

The track has been attributed to that last start failure, but there was more to it than that, as it was only a Soft 5 rating and the four-year-old was never in contention.

While Union Army is reasonably well exposed now, I still think he's a galloper with a lot of improvement left and he's a forgotten horse off one bad run.

Race 3 - 1:40PM TAB Highway Handicap Tips (1000m)

Best: 2. Perennial. There's plenty of speed in this Highway field and that should play into the hands of this unbeaten Arrowfield galloper, who is looking to go 4/4 on Saturday.

Although he campaigned at country level in his first prep, he still easily accounted for Satin and Silk via his debut victory and that galloper is now a metro winner.

He landed big bets when resuming over the 900m at Newcastle early last month and with Aaron Bullock staying in the saddle, his unbeaten run can continue here

Value: 10. Bomarea. All three of her wins have come over five furlongs, so while she couldn't progress in two runs following a return victory, those attempts were over a little further.

Bomarea gave nothing else a chance when resuming in a similar affair here back in December, where she led throughout under Mikayla Weir and she's been freshened up for this.

Even though there is speed around her, the filly wasn't comfortable when ridden for a trail via a metro BM72 last time, so look for them to put the foot down early.

Race 4 - 2:15PM Catanach's Jewellers Skyline Stakes Tips (1200m)

Best: 1. Storm Boy. All eyes will be on the outright Golden Slipper fav, with the big and strong son of Justify looking to remain unbeaten in this fresh attempt.

The form had stood up throughout his first prep and his ability to find another gear in a high pressure Magic Millions before a spell was particularly impressive.

These slipper lead-up's do you have a habit of throwing up a rough result, but Storm Boy certainly didn't appear to be going backwards in his recent trial and he will start short.

Value: 7. President. This Chris Waller-trained colt could be one to entertain at a big futures price for the Sires', as he could be hitting his straps come then.

Although unsuited on debut when back on the Kensington circuit and in an otherwise on-speed dominated race, President showed class and there's plenty of improvement to come.

He made ground against the pattern despite wanting to lay in a key stages in the straight and as far as bets go if you're looking outside of Storm Boy, then he makes the most appeal.

Race 5 - 2:50PM Yarraman Park Handicap Tips (2000m)

Best: 7. Floating. Missing last week's Parramatta Cup could be a blessing in disguise for Floating, as he did draw out in that 1900m event and he has gate four here.

This is also an easier assignment at BM88 level and the grey did win a similar affair here two starts back, where he relished the rise to 2000m on January 27.

While there were excuses following that over a mile, where he was wide and covered ground early, he wasn't well placed coming back in trip, with this a much better set-up.

Value: 13. Sky Out. This Ciaron Maher-trained import is no superstar, but he's seemingly found the right race here third-up, where he's right down in the weights with a low rating.

The gelding was honest, albeit a little one-paced last time over 2000m, but he held his ground in fourth and that run followed a decent return over 1500m.

He sole win in Australia came last winter, where he was a month between runs, so the pattern here is fine and he can roll forward to settle in the first few pairs.

Race 6 - 3:25PM TAB Sweet Embrace Stakes Tips (1200m)

Best: 1. Manaal. The Gimcrack winner was spelled after that debut triumph here in September and she returned with a workmanlike performance on February 3 when runner-up.

Over 1100m at Rosehill, Manaal didn't have the tactical speed or a turn-of-foot to match Lady Of Camelot, however, the Michael Freedman-trained filly wasn't disgraced in second.

That form has stood up, as that winner placed in last Saturday's Blue Diamond and with an extra 100m on this bigger track likely to suit, she's a deserving fav here.
Value: 11. Fly Fly. Off two classy trial wins, we gave this Team Hawkes filly a sniff at a big price on debut, where the daughter of Trapeze Artist finished fourth.

That first run was behind more experienced rivals in Switzerland and Shangri La Express and both of those runners are slipper contenders, so it was a pass mark.

That was her first time under race pressure and she didn't appreciate being inside of runners, but there's natural improvement to come and she's another suited up in trip.

Race 7 - 4:00PM TAB Verry Elleegant Stakes Tips (1600m)

Best: 9. Fangirl. With her get back racing pattern, drawing barrier 10 is the least of Fangirl's worries in the Verry Elleegant Stakes, as J-Mac will at the very least have galloping room when he needs it.

Anamoe going to stud has given Fangirl her time to shine, with the Chris Waller-trained mare winning two Group 1's last spring and both of those triumphs were at Randwick.

She was defeated second-up with a similar platform in that last prep, which is one of the main queries here, although her Apollo Stakes run on February 17 was on another level.

Value: 4. Buckaroo. He might not be able to trouble Fangirl at WFA level over 1400m-1600m, especially on drier ground, however, Buckaroo was arguably the run outside of her in the Apollo Stakes.

He was saved for one run fresh, having got off heels at the 200m before working through his gears late and he could be one aimed towards a Doncaster Mile this prep.

His best chance of upsetting Fangirl would be to gain an early tactical advantage and now from an inside draw second-up over 1600m, Tommy Berry should be more positive.

Race 8 - 4:35PM Drinkwise Surround Stakes Tips (1400m)

Best: 8. Makarena. The race fitness of Caballus (winner) proved the difference, however, Makarena safely held off the rest of the boys in the Eskimo Prince Stakes and that was following a quiet ride.

She was produced off three-week (or thereabouts) patterns when winning over the spring, so a similar set-up here going into the Group 1 Surround Stakes looks ideal.

That Eskimo Prince Stakes produced the Hobartville quinella, which includes the impressive Celestial Legend and Makarena is now each-way odds vs the fillies despite easily accounting for him.

Value: 11. Arctic Glamour. She recorded what was arguably the hidden run of the Light Fingers, with Arctic Glamour only balancing up late in that key 1200m lead-up race after settling a long way back.

The daughter of Frosted didn't appear comfortable until the final furlong and the sectionals support that, with the three-year-old recording the fastest last 200m of that event.

The Ryan & Alexiou-trained filly progressed quickly last year, with the highlight being a Listed win over this track/trip, where she easily accounted for Joliestar (subsequent Group 1 winner).

Race 9 - 5:15PM Proven Thoroughbreds Guy Walter Stakes Tips (1400m)

Best: 3. Olentia. She was perhaps a good thing beaten first-up in the Triscay Stakes, but it was still an encouraging return to form for Olentia, who is suited up to 1400m here.

We needed to see that race day, as her spring prep did fall away after a slick return victory and the Chris Waller-trained galloper did win five of her first six starts.

In mares grade over seven furlongs and against some key threats who are resuming, the four-year-old does tick plenty of boxes here and she only needs to hold her form to salute.
Value: 5. More Secrets. This Team Hawkes mare is still very lightly raced for a six-year-old, with More Secrets having completed just the 16 starts overall.

Despite having not won at stakes level, she's proven herself in the class over her last few seasons, with three placings in Group company among the highlights.

Two of her four career wins have come first-up, so she warrants respect despite having no public trials, while her turn-if-foot in this small field could prove dangerous.

Race 10 - 5:55PM Liverpool City Cup Tips (1300m)

Best: 4. Kovalica. Admittedly you only get one look at a Golden Eagle, so you can't fault connections for aiming at a $10 million race, but it was still poor placement last spring.

Kovalica is a galloper that needs 2000m to find his best at the top level and while returning over these shorter trips is fine, he'll really prosper over longer distances.

At Randwick in a more high pressure race, this does set-up better than his last first-up assignment at Rosehill, although, this is a tricky race to try and get out on.

Value: 11. Hard To Say. He still hasn't ticked the 1200m box despite stepping to 1300m here, however, he still got home behind a flying Lady Laguna last start.

Also, How To Say should have finished closer to King Of Sparta on the Gold Coast and that form has stood up, with that galloper taking out the Group 2 Expressway Stakes.

If there's queries at a distance, then you want at least three things in your favor, which is fitness, a soft draw and a low weight, and he has all of those.
