Randwick Tips December 18

Race 1 - 12:20PM TAB Supports National Jockeys Trust Tips (1200m)

Selections: 3,2,7,5.

3. MAN IN THE MIRROR was solid behind Hell I Am, the beaten fav in the Wyong Magic Millions and he may be the best horse to come from that. The Rosehill hit-out on Tuesday was stronger, winning under a hold on good ground, albeit the time was average. Winkers go on, he's drawn well and from an in-form yard, gets his chance in an open race.

2. Himalaism was another to improve from his first to the second trial, with a soft piece of work on Tuesday. Superbly bred colt, by I Am Invincible and out of a Group 1 winning sprinter, Snitzerland.

7. Uncorked has trialled okay since her honest debut for second in the Max Lees, but the form has been poor from that. Obviously, a chance, just way too short at $2.30-$2.40.

5. Hyde had excuses on debut when forced to make an early move in a muddling affair and the winkers now go on. He was well backed on that occasion.

Race 2 - 1:00PM ATC Thanks John Williams Handicap Tips (1400m)

Selections: 1,5,8,3.

1. BLACK DUKE broke a winning drought fresh and had decent form as a three-year-old (not beaten far in three group attempts). Second-up, he was working home in the worst part of the Kembla track and was then set a big task with 61kg at Rosehill. 1400m should suit now and from a good draw with the 3kg claim, he's well placed on Saturday.

5. Starman backed-up up a stylish trial victory to win fresh at Canterbury, returning as a gelding. He has a lot of improvement to come, 1400m shouldn't be an issue and this isn't much harder.

8. Sacrimony meets Starman 1.5kg better from that last clash and it was only a narrow defeat. I think there's a lot more upside with the fav, but the map is very kind here.

3. Toomuchtobear beat Mr Brightside via his last 1400m attempt, who won his next six starts before a close defeat as fav in a Group 1. Respect the betting first-up.

Race 3 - 1:40PM TAB Highway Class 2 Handicap Tips (1400m)

Selections: 9,1,16,2.

9. MR BURGUNDY will be more furnished next campaign, although this is only a Highway and after racing very greenly on debut, he took the necessary improvement to win a provincial maiden at start two in fair time at Gosford. Should appreciate the bigger expanses of Randwick, but it's just whether he's mature enough to handle 1400m now.

1. Optimo saluted first and third-up, with efforts behind Authentic Jewel and Socialist (metro BM64) in the other two outings, which reads superbly for a Highway. The wide draw is the only knock.

16. Shemakesastatement improved greatly second-up when the tongue-tie was applied and then she walked in under a hold at Scone. That was on a Heavy 8, though.

2. Shelby Sixtysix had every conceivable chance last week, although was still only beaten a pimple and the first three home were clearing out from the rest.

Mr Burgundy - $13.00Randwick Race Threebet now
18+ only. T&Cs apply. Stay in Control. Gamble Responsibly. Think! About your choices. Call Gambling Help on 1800 858 858 or visit www.gamblinghelponline.org.au.

Race 4 - 2:15PM Midway Handicap Tips (1200m)

Selections: 4,8,11,5.

4. QUEEN BELLISSIMO rises sharply in the weights now third-up, but back to a Midway, she has to be the starting point here. This mare ran her rivals ragged fresh at Kembla and as a beaten fav in a BM78, lost no admirers in a fighting third on December 4. There's good speed drawn to her outside, which is the main query (do they have to lead?).

8. Sedition is honest and with no winning heavy track, or first-up form, his return for third behind Bacchanalia (won easily again last week) had plenty of merit. He's in the each-way mix at a big price ($21.00 @ Sportsbet).

11. Hollywood Gossip is another well placed in a Midway and she bounced back in a fast-run 1200m sprint at Warwick Farm. Just not sure where she lands from the wide draw.

5. Grace Bay was plain twice after a first-up win and freshened right up, is better placed back to 1200m. Blinkers on and is decent odds ($26.00 @ Ladbrokes) off a good map.

Race 5 - 2:50PM Precise Air Handicap Tips (2000m)

Selections: 8,3,1,7.

8. BORN A KING recorded the win of the day second-up, as it was hard to make ground on that November 17 meeting and well backed at 2000m third-up, had his chance if good enough, but had to settle for fourth. Drops to 54kg now, while I do suspect he's more effective ridden with cover and the box-seat is available from gate one here.

3. Huetor remained unbeaten in Australia when defeating a similar line-up at Rosehill on December 4. There are a few weight swings against him from that, but he still looks on an upwards spiral.

1. Mubariz is worth forgiving from last week, as he was forced wide and had to go early, while the Group 3 return was solid. Classy, but does he run out a strong 2000m?

7. Welsh Legend is weighted to turn the tables, with a 2kg swing on Huetor and this mare was only second-up. She does struggle to win, though (3/30).

Born A King - $4.00Randwick Race Fivebet now

Race 6 - 3:25PM Unsw Handicap Tips (1400m)

Selections: 3,1,4,2.

3. SAIGON was only narrowly defeated by The Irishman (group placed at his next two) first-up in March, so was a silly price returning against her own sex on December 4, where she was only a stride off rolling a handy Shihonka, who she was spotting 5kg to. For Waller and J-Mac, this does look a very winnable affair over the Randwick 1400m.

1. Nicci's Fling recorded another third last start, although had every chance and Saigon did sail straight past her. The engagment of a 3kg claimer is the reason she heads the betting off that clash.

4. Arctic Thunder kept her unbeaten first-up record intact via a Midway and has less convictions than most. The rise in weigtht, despite coming up in grade is the concern.

2. Exotic Ruby backs-up from last week and drops in grade for the 1400m, which she's seemingly looking for. That wasn't a strong BM88, however.

Saigon - $5.50Randwick Race Sixbet now
18+ only. Don't let the game play you. Stay in control. Gamble responsibly.

Race 7 - 4:00PM Chandon Garden Spritz Handicap Tips (1600m)

Selections: 8,10,5,3.

8. FRANCESCO GUARDI is one that I've opposed and while I wouldn't be hurrying to snap up the even money, this appears nearly tailor-made, dropping 2kg and J-Mac should land just off the leaders. Waihaha Falls simply had the softer run a fortnight ago and Born A King only just rolled him prior. That should be stacking up in a weak BM78.

10. Speed Legend could well be the most talented horse in the field and the 1600m off three runs back from a long break should suit. Not loving his recent form, but there's a hint of X factor there.

5. Amica whacked away fresh on a tough card to make ground and wasn't suited at 1350m second-up, but it was another fair effort. The mile now is a big tick for her.

3. Canasta has the jury out on him after a plain run, which was his first second-up failure. Back to a BM78, that last start SP should still be respected.

Francesco Guardi - $2.00Randwick Race Sevenbet now
18+ only. T&Cs apply. Stay in Control. Gamble Responsibly. Think! About your choices. Call Gambling Help on 1800 858 858 or visit www.gamblinghelponline.org.au.

Race 8 - 4:40PM Acy Securities Handicap Tips (1400m)

Selections: 5,8,1,9.

5. BOTTEGA is where we've landed, albeit it's open and would have to consider Tricky Gal if she was confirmed (also accepted for a listed race in Brisbane). The entire has come to hand early over his last few preps, where he hasn't necessarily been suited (excuses in two Group 3's over the autumn). Trial win was strong and this is about his level.

8. Oscar Zulu has won two of three first-up and the miss was to Count De Rupee when forced back from a wide gate. Shouldn't be triple the price ($17.00 @ bet365) of Frosty Rocks, going off that Spring Preview clash.

1. Frosty Rocks is a proven weight carrier, albeit in easier grade and has become quite bomb-poof, given he handles any conditions. The grey will roll along up front.

9. Bigboyboy heads the betting, a very consistent earner for connections, but he's almost always under the odds, which is again the scenario here.

Bottega - $6.00Randwick Race Eightbet now
18+ only. T&Cs apply. Stay in Control. Gamble Responsibly. Think! About your choices. Call Gambling Help on 1800 858 858 or visit www.gamblinghelponline.org.au.

Race 9 - 5:20PM Fujitsu General Handicap Tips (1200m)

Selections: 1,6,8,5.

1. GEE TEE TEE doesn't bring vintage form from Brisbane, although to be fair, he's not taking on world beaters here and for a yard that don't regularly travel, they aren't coming down for a laugh. It was a nice fresh win when spotting weight to the placegetter's, while this map looks favourable, camping just off a good speed from a middle draw.

6. Much Much Better is the form runner, a gelding that bolted in via a handy BM88 and was brave on-speed last start, a sprint where they had to run on. If there's petrol left, he's the one to run down.

8. Tycoonist is suited at Randwick/1200m second-up. The query as fav is On The Lead ($12) and Liberty Sun ($20) both finished alongside him a fortnight ago.

5. Starla recorded back-to-back wins last prep when finding firmer ground before having some excuses via a listed race. Has each-way claims at longer odds ($15.00 @ bet365).

Race 10 - 5:55PM Schweppes Sprint Tips (1000m)

Selections: 3,12,9,14.

3. THE BOPPER is a stakes class sprinter if he recaptures his best and what I like ahead of this prep is the two trials instead of one, with a somewhat more workmanlike hit-out via the latest, which should bring him on. Has always looked more comfortable without the blinkers (been removed) and if right, he should be taking care of this field.

12. Leo progressed from a country/Highway battler to metro BM78 level seemingly overnight, bolting in at Randwick before a spell. Wide draw is the clear knock, but the lead-up trial was faultless.

9. Fastconi will find his ceiling in this grade, with a better winning set-up likely coming over a little more ground, but the strong speed should see him get home.

14. Depth That Varies is the outsider of the race ($61.00 @ PlayUp), but was held-up at Rosehill (not beaten far) and is freshened. A fast run 1000m is his right set-up.

The Bopper - $4.00Randwick Race Tenbet now

Verdict

The Bopper is much more talented than BM78 grade and has trialled up twice ahead of his return via the last.

Saigon (Race 6) is decent odds off a strong return and Black Duke is a good each-way chance in Race 2.
