Randwick Tips May 29

Race 1 - 11:25AM IRONMARK HANDICAP Tips (1100 METRES)

Selections: 7,1,3,9.

Debut runner 7. SACRED FIELD is certainly short enough in the early markets, taking on more seasoned two-year-old's, but this is far from the cream of the crop. By Deep Field and out of a daughter to dual Group One winner Sacred Choice, this colt has showed versatility in two stylish trial wins. Not sure what Tommy Berry does from gate 10.

With the 3kg claim, 1. Kalashnikov is very well in and the Black Opal winner won the second of his lead-up trials. There was a big opinion of him early and he didn't deliver, but clearly improved over the autumn.

3. Artero saluted at a fair price on debut in the Inglis Challenge and it was a big performance, snagged back to the last before circling the entire field. Has opened up at long odds ($17.00 @ Winnersbet) once again and is hard to knock.

While 9. Princess Spice has put together tough back-to-back wins on the country circuit, they sent her to town for her debut in where she was a $10 chance. Fit, speedy and drawn barrier one, is worth thought at a decent quote ($23.00 @ Sportsbet).

Selections: 14,13,6,16.

Clearly set for a 50k Class 1 on Tamworth Cup Day was 14. MANSENETA who was backed for plenty there and missed by a whisker (would've bolted in had he drawn gate). He bounced back third-up with a big win at Grafton and although is back in trip, draws well and plummets down to the 54kg minimum with Tommy Berry taking the ride. Recent tick over trial was superb.

The overs ($23.00 @ Sportsbet) is 13. Magic Charlee, another galloper that drops back to the 1400m following a third-up win over a mile and his prior effort in a handy Provincial 64 had merit. Carries just 51kg after the Reece Jones claim and is generally thereabouts.

Last start Highway winner 6. Don'tforgetmonica loses the claim and goes up 5.5kg as a result, but it was a soft victory on May 15. Has again drawn gate one, so won't spend a penny once more in transit.

16. Swagger is no slouch and a fast run seven furlongs from gate 10 at Randwick seemingly looks perfect for this gelding. Won't know himself chasing with just 54kg and is a chance at good odds ($21.00 @ bet365).

Selections: 1,10,7,5.

At 35.16, 1. STOCKMAN has recorded comfortably the fastest last 600m of last Saturday's Lord Mayors Cup, finding the line off a good tempo. I felt he was tracking perfectly towards the Winter Cup on June 5, so a shade surprised they're backing up for a 78. Has the weight, but Sam Clipperton takes back the reins, who was building a good affiliation with him last year.

It was hard to miss the Australian debut of 11. No Compromise, who motored home for third in a leader dominated race on May 15, putting a huge space on fourth in the process. Loses the claim here and there's a little more depth to this line up.

7. Sounds Of Cannon is one-paced import from the John O'Shea yard that finally showed something at Warwick Farm, with the catalyst there being clearly the step up to 2400m. Up in grade slightly, but importantly drops in the weights.

5. Feel The Rush couldn't get out of her own way in her first three starts for the Maher & Eustace stable, but is improving and the May 12 effort suggested she wasn't far away now.

Selections: 2,3,9,10.

Looks a race of two and going the way of the talented 2. MORE PROPHETS who considering the $5 starting price (favourite) second-up in a strong Group Three Dark Jewel, is a more than acceptable quote at $4+ in a 78 against her own sex. Return was good against a smart sprinter and the Scone effort was fine. Suited staying at 1400m in what should be a truly run affair.

While I think we'll see the best of 3. Grand Rumore over a mile, she's a Stakes class mare if her current trajectory continues. A sensational Australian debut win was followed by a luckless attempt at Hawkesbury. Gate two a potential knock for her.

It's probably not going to be your day if 9. St Covet's Spirit manages to lob, a winner of just from 21 starts, but is much better placed back to Benchmark level third-up. She's one at a price ($12.00 @ betstar) if you're playing the exotics.

10. Obvious Step ran a shocker two starts back in the Adrian Knox, but was ticking over well prior to that and she should've finished much closer when returning off a freshen-up on May 19.

Selections: 14,7,8,10.

I've always had time for 14. MAGIC RULER, a galloper that showed glimpses of potential over his first few campaigns, but nothing came to fruition so connections opted to geld him. It was an ordinary Maiden he won first-up, but he did it well and with questionable speed here, they can work across. This race is an absolute lottery, but he's a big price.

7. Sixgun was a brilliant Maiden winner last winter before competing against useful company and was another gelded ahead of his autumn return. He did have excuses when racing wide in that May 12 return and with cover, could easily lob here.

Stepping to the 1200m for the first time is 8. Naga To Riches who boxed on fairly second-up at Listed level a fortnight ago behind Ballistic Lover. The winkers have been applied and he draws for a soft run yet again.

Felt 10. Lennon was looking for 1400m now, but the bigger expanses of Randwick is far more suitable than Canterbury and the gelding had little luck there last start. He made light work of Exoboom at start two, so certainly respecting his class here despite the quote ($12.00 @ TopSport).

Selections: 6,3,8,1.

With more intent, 6. WANDABAA would've recorded a black-type victory earlier in the autumn with perhaps the McCarten Stakes first-up the one that went begging the most, flashing home for fourth and recoding fast splits in the process. Didn't quite run out the 1300m of the Hawkesbury Crown, but looks so well placed at 1100m here at the weights off that prior form.

Her stable mate 3. Enchanted Heart defeated the smart Lost And Running fresh before getting belted by the same galloper second-up. She bounced back with victory in the Takeover Target, with the key being the soft tracks. Her Randwick form is a concern, however.

Looking around 8. Marway at the price. Carried a big weight when setting up a big break and clinging on before the Wagga Town Plate romp. They were two monster peaks and now faces better credentialed rivals, many of whom relish soft tracks.

1. Tactical Advantage is a hard runner to catch but is well up to this if he's in the mood. Has been beaten by Group One winners in his last two first-up attempts and he has a good Randwick record. Is the outsider of the field ($26.00 @ BlueBet).

Race 7 - 3:05PM NSW M&H AIR HANDICAP Tips (1300 METRES)

Selections: 3,2,10,1.

Off two trials and being under the tightest of holds in the last of those, 3. APRIL RAIN was always going to improve off the fresh run and was set a monster task at Gosford, with class alone nearly getting her there. I suspect Chris Waller had a QLD winter in mind with her (Tatts Tiara) when putting this talented mare away in February and she needs to putting this lot away to warrant a trip north.

2. Canasta was well supported first-up last preparation, but had to settle for second and following that, dominated when leading throughout at Rosehill. Is back to 78 grade after two flops and if he gets control, is always a hard one to reel in.

I'm not sold on the spring form of 10. Knight, but he won three of six and is a galloper with upside. He'll be better suited at a mile although has won both trials ahead of this and has less convictions than most of these.

1. Badoosh is classy, but I'm just not sure where he's at with a poor finish to the summer and his two trials leading in weren't flash. On ability, can measure up here at a price ($27.00 @ Sportsbet) and he generally comes to hand early in his preparations.

Selections: 11,9,13,5.

Remaining down in the weights off a strong effort in the 'The Coast', which was certainly a Group class event in terms of quality, this looks the perfect set-up for 11. BRUTALITY. While he generally just needs that pinch of luck with his racing pattern, the strike rate is good and the son of Shamus Award is so genuine, especially on rain affected ground. Entitled to be shorter.

While 9. True Detective has always been a bit of a tease, he stuck on well in the Luskin Star behind Lost And Running and can improve off that. With the claim, his best chance is rolling forward with the low weight in what looks a suitable race on paper.

13. Lina's Hero was a little lucky to score at Kensington, but he had been building well and that might just be the confidence booster he needed. The soft map with just 52kg to carry gives him a sniff, providing the rail isn't off.

The Luskin Star effort of 5. Military Star was the best we've seen from this gelding in some time and although he hasn't won in two years, the five-year-old has been fancied much stronger races than this. Three of his five victories have come second-up.

Race 9 - 4:25PM UPHIRE HANDICAP Tips (1100 METRES)

Selections: 4,7,14,1.

After sustaining a long second racing preparation, which he certainly needed to mature, we'll get a much better gauge on the ceiling of 4. MALKOVICH this winter. No horse in Sydney trials as well this colt, a trait that he's kept ahead of this return with two big wins at Rosehill in May (more than 18 lengths combined). It's not a bad 78, but he's one with X Factor.

7. Hulk has never been one of mine but with a cleaner getaway, he wins first-up. After taking 13 starts to break the Maiden, the four-year-old did improve last spring. Tommy Berry sticks and was aboard last November when he cruised in via this grade.

There's more depth here for 14. Accelerato, but in any fast run sprint on a soft track, you'd be brave to dismiss him, especially at the price ($18.00 @ Ladbrokes). He's finished in the money in five of six second-up attempts and conditions should suit on Saturday.

Respect any moves for 1. Bulletin at long odds ($23.50 @ Sportsbetting). His Australian debut in January was a messy race and one that was set up for Tailleur, a subsequent Group winner. He's been given some time, the trials have been solid and this is easier.
