SCHWEPPES MAIDEN HANDICAP Tips (Race 1)
Port Macquarie Best Bet - Race 1 No. 2 Unwavering Faith
With 11 winners from his last 35 starters, trainer Nathan Doyle has been a profitable one for punters to follow of late and early on Friday's Port Macquarie meeting, he gets a great chance to build further on that record.
Unwavering Faith has been knocking on the door for this entire first racing preparation, making some late inroads via her March 24 debut here before a pair of seconds, the last of those being her first attempt over the 1500m.
The daughter of Sebring was a little tardy away on April 3 and spotted the leader too big of a start but with the winkers now going on along with jumping from a better draw, she gets her chance in what's a very weak Maiden.
JOHN OXLEY MOTORS MAIDEN PLATE Tips (Race 4)
Port Macquarie Value Bet - Race 4 No. 14 Vicky's One
Sent around as a 40/1 chance on debut at Grafton, this filly performed much better than the market expected behind what looks a useful pair in Stellar Magic (runner-up in Brisbane either side of that) and Mabel (placed in the Wellington boot at her next start).
As a result, there was a good move at decent odds for Vicky's One ($13.00-$9.50) at start two and while the beaten margin was more than six lengths, was inconvenienced at a key stage where she lost more than a few lengths along with momentum.
It's hard to sack her off that and given her lack of early toe, the step up to 1200m will be much more suitable as should the middle gate, where she can ideally get a tow into it late from off the speed.
GREAT NORTHERN ON TAP BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP Tips (Race 6)
Port Macquarie Value Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Euroworld
After securing a plumb trailing position first-up at Muswellbrook and peeling out as the sprint went on, Euroworld was travelling initially but as soon as a dash for home looked likely, stopped as if he hit a brick wall and was eased out of proceedings late.
It was much too bad of a run to be true and with the tongue tie now being applied, there's a reasonable chance the gelding choked down in that March 26 contest, so at the price, it may pay just to put a line through that performance.
He showed promise in two runs prior to that via his first campaign, boxing on well despite a wide run on debut before stepping up to this track and trip on October 20 to record a very soft two length win and in this line-up, does look the one with a bit of upside going forward.
