He did show sharp improvement after his first two trials in February, with Bold Hero returning as a gelding ahead of this campaign, which opened with a trial win on July 1.

The Simon Miller-trained galloper came from the rear to take out that Lark Hill heat and from a wide draw, there was no intent on debut at Northam, where he did drift in the market.

Although he was never in winning contention via that July 18 maiden, the four-year-old did catch the eye late in a sixth-of-fourteen finish and stepping up to a mile looks ideal here.

Vergrey can also be supported here, with the equal fav being clearly the form runner via this Class 1, but at a longer each-way quote is Best Of The Gods, who arrives third-up.

After a decent hit-out in the last of his winter trials, the son of Playing God was a notable drifter first-up and despite a fair return, he was bolters odds second-up on July 17.

Following a quiet ride from a wide alley, Best Of The Gods was doing his best work late and from a kinder draw on Thursday, he maps for more favours over a more suitable distance.

This son of Justify is well bred, being the first foal out of Celebrity Dream (Group 3 winner), with his dam is a sibling to a pair of Group 2 winners (she's also out of a Group 3 winner).

While he showed potential in his prep, Just Famous is a more furnished horse this time in, with the three-year-old bolting in first-up at Northam on heavy ground as a well backed fav.

He was still a little green despite recording a soft victory in that July 18 event and coming from a maiden that rated very well, he can go on with it here off another good map.

Jane Whitehorn Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Pinjarra Best Bet - Race 8 No. 1 Special Sort

With a 1600m run completed fourth-up, this five-year-old should be at peak fitness for Thursday's assignment, where he carries 1kg less despite dropping to provincial level.

Special Sort was runner-up in his latest outing, where he worked home against the race shape and a leader's track, and that winner (Ginger Green) franked the form last Saturday.

He saluted over this trip with a similar impost at Ascot last prep and while it's been a slower build-up this campaign, he's still racing well and the gelding is nicely placed here.
