Best Bet:

Race 3 No. 1 Athanatos

Trainer Phillip Stokes does well at this venue and his representative demonstrated good form in his last prep.

The three-year-old registered some solid placed efforts in the state including when a good second in a 1420m Benchmark 64 handicap at Flemington in September.

The youngster went on to break through for his first victory when successful by half-a-length in a Benchmark 68 handicap at Morphettville the following month.

The pick raced over 1600m on that occasion with the runner-up Goldrush Guru going on to salute in the Group 1 Victoria Derby less than a month later.

The drop back in distance shouldn’t pose an issue here with the gelding arriving here on the back of a couple of efforts in jumpouts.

Jockey Daniel Stackhouse knows the son of I Am Immortal well with the pair looking capable of recording a win jumping from barrier five.

Value Bet:

Race 5 No. 3 Whiskey Tango

The ex-New Zealand-trained gelding delivered some good efforts last prep including when breaking through for his first flat win in taking out a 2720m maiden at Werribee in May last year.

The seven-year-old went on to place second in a highweight Benchmark 58 handicap contest at the same venue later that month with both of those efforts coming on a soft 5 surface.

The son of Proisir started out this prep with a staying on sixth, beaten less than two-and-a-half-lengths when contesting a 1590m Restricted 58 handicap at Wangaratta in December.

The selection was ridden from off the pace on that occasion but was ridden closer to the speed by jockey Will Gordon when saluting over 2200m at Camperdown subsequently.

The extra distance here is a positive and with Gordon retaining the ride Patrick & Michelle Payne’s galloper is taken to complete a double.

Market Mover:

Race 4 No. 7 Astral Flame

Enver Jusufovic's three-year-old filly has been the subject of support in the fourth race of the night

The daughter of Overshare was $4 when markets opened with Neds and she's now priced at $2.60.

Stats Say:

Jockey Blake Shinn currently tops the state jockeys Premiership for 2024/25 and he boasts an impressive 31% strike-rate (47/151) when riding at country meetings in the state this season.

The rider is set to feature with five rides on the card with all bar one trading at $5 or less, including in the final two races where his mounts are currently favourite.
