Best Bet:
Race 7 No. 2 Zoupurring
The five-year-old performed well at metro level last prep including when following up a country win at Geelong with a third over 1200m at Flemington at the start of August.
That Flemington effort came at Benchmark 74 level with the gelding backing that up with a third on the Lakeside track at Sandown later that month.
The pick finished outside the top three in his final two starts that prep but resumed with a narrow defeat when second over 1200m in a Cranbourne Benchmark 70 handicap just over a month ago.
The gelding failed to fire over the same distance back at Flemington in a Benchmark 70 event last time and the drop in grade is a positive here.
The switch to country-level racing is a further positive and jumping from an inside barrier and stepping up in distance he looks capable of saluting wearing winkers for the first time.
Next Best:
Race 5 No. 4 Gala Queen
The daughter of Deep Field demonstrated ability when beaten less than two lengths into sixth over 1000m on the Hillside track at Sandown on debut last July.
The filly caught the eye having been slowly away and met with issues in running at crucial stages that day and she was tackling previous winners when last of seven next time.
The pick registered a couple of a good second place finishes in 1000m jumpout events here prior to making her return to action in a course and distance maiden last month.
Phillip Stokes’ representative raced from mid-division before coming home two lengths clear of her rivals when racing on a good 4 track.
The selection had to challenge widest of all on that occasion but picked up nicely in the closing stages to deliver an impressive victory.
Joe Bowditch, on board that day is again set to ride with the pair taken to record back-to-back wins.
Market Mover:
Jamie Mott currently sits second in the Victoria Jockey Premiership with 75 winners from his 456 rides to date.
He has five rides on the Pakenham card with punters latching on to his mount Brandnu Deal in the finale.
The gelding, an impressive maiden winner over 1400m at Camperdown was available at $9 when the markets opened, however, the four-year-old is now priced at $6 with EliteBet
Stats:
Jockey Damian Lane boasts a near 23% strike-rate (28/123) when riding at country meetings in the state so far this season.
The absence of Mr Vivaci in the sixth sees the rider’s workload reduced to four rides on the card including Time Lapse who is expected to be a warm order to break his maiden at the third attempt in the third race of the day.
The jockey is also set to ride newcomer High Praise ($16) in the fourth, Let’s Trot ($4.80) in the fifth and Nothingelsematters ($7.60) in the finale.
