Pakenham Tips April 18

Vale Tom Curnow Tips (Race 4)

Pakenham Roughie - Race 4 No. 12 Trinity’s D’Oro

Trained by Brian McGrath, Trinity's D'oro has shown a liking for a soft surface in the past, having placed via both previous starts on wet tracks.

The first of those saw her debut with a third when beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths over 1206m on a Soft 6 track at Benalla in September.

While a string of unplaced efforts followe,  it’s of note that she jumped at big odds on each occasion, including in a metro contest at Moonee Valley in November.

Trinity's D'oro was spelled following that Moonee Valley effort and returned to action with a seventh of nine over 1203m at Kyneton last month.

The three-year-old took a step forward when seven-and-a-half-lengths second over 1200m here last start and that winner (Angland) looks well above average.

Pakenham Value Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Rule Of Time

Trained by Leon & Troy Corstens, Rule Of Time ended her last prep with two disappointing efforts in Benchmark 64 handicap contests.

The drop back in distance appeared to suit, with the mare resuming with a half-length victory in a Restricted 64 handicap over 1200m at Warracknabeal last month.

While slowly away, the four-year-old came home well under Linda Meech with the blinkers worn for four of her five runs last prep absent.

The blinkers are again absent here, with Rule Of Time having no issue with the extra distance here , aving broken her maiden over 1406m at Benalla last September.

The daughter of Sebring appeared to relish the Soft 6 track that day and with a good barrier in six, she looks value to complete a double.

Pakenham Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Vegas On Fire

The mare is a three-time winner this prep, with her most recent success coming by a head when taking out an eleven-runner course and distance event in January.

Vegas On Fire completed a double when contesting a Benchmark 58 handicap held on a Soft 5 surface that day.

Similar underfoot conditions are expected here and she registered her best effort since then when fourth in a 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap here earlier this month.

The four-year-old was freshened before that effort which saw her beaten just over a length, having jumped at odds of $41.

As a frontrunner set to jump from a wide alley, the barrier allocation could have been kinder, however, she still represents an in-form stable here.

Pakenham Best Bet - Race 8 No. 7 Khalida

The four-year-old has shown improvement with racing since returning from a spell, with a three-and-a-half-length fifth over 1000m here at the start of last month.

The mare took a step forward when beaten less than a length into second when odds-on for an 1100m maiden at Bendigo subsequently.

Tony Noonan’s representative made no mistake when switched to racing against her own sex at Mornington last time, where she won by half-a-length over this distance.

Khalida raced on a Good 4 track in each of those three efforts andshe has registered respectable efforts on a Soft 5 surface in the past.

Jockey Jake Noonan knows the daughter of Toronado well and connections' decision to skip a race at Bairnsdale to head here can pay dividends.
