Pakenham Tips April 4

Neil Matthews 0-64 Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Pakenham Value Bet - Race 2 No. 7 Triple Vision

The youngster makes his first start for the Steve Richards stable, having previously been trained by Stephen Marsh in New Zealand.

Triple Visioon showed plenty of ability for Marsh, including when placing second on a Heavy 8 track at Tauranga when debuting in a 1400m maiden in November.

The son of Darci Brahma went on to break his maiden over the same track/trip three starts later.

He came home a length clear of his rivals on a soft 5 surface there and he was beaten just three-and-a-half-lengths at Group 1 level next time.

Billy Egan’s mount has a good barrier six from the rail here and with underfoot conditions no issue, he looks value to make a winning Australian debut.

Mitchell Sweeney Takes On Sportsbet Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Pakenham Best Bet - Race 3 No. 4 Hearcomesthestar

The filly has proven that she handles wet tracks, having broken her maiden by half-a-length on a Heavy 9 surface at Sandown in May last year.

The three-year-old has been highly-tried at times since, including when acquitting herself well in two Group 3 contests last prep.

The second of those efforts saw her beaten less than five-and-a-half-lengths when fifth-of-twelve in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield in November.

Hearcomesthestar was spelled following that effort and returned with a strong finishing fourth, having been ridden from off the pace in a similar race to this in February.

She did best of those racing from off the pace in a race that is working out well, with the winner that day one of two to have registered subsequent victories.

David Bak Maiden Plate Tips (Race 6)

Pakenham Roughie - Race 6 No. 5 Hurdwick Stone

The New Zealand-bred gelding has shown ability in two starts at this venue, including when fifth over 1600m on debut.

The three-year-old followed that effort up with a sixth when beaten less than five lengths in a similar contest over the same track/trip two weeks later.

Hardwick Stone performed well, having missed the break and overraced in the early stages when keeping on nicely in behind on that occasion.

The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young team have opted to apply blinkers to their representative here and that may bring about improvement.

While the son of Tavistock has yet to race on a heavy track, he hails from a family who have demonstrated a liking for wet surfaces in the past and he is expected to handle underfoot conditions.

Joan Watson BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Pakenham Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 10 Grid Girl

The filly showed plenty of ability in her two starts in New Zealand for previous handler Guy Lowry including when third over 1300m at Hastings in October.

The three-year-old subsequently joined the Ben, JD & Will Hayes team and made the perfect start for them when saluting by half-a-length in a 1400m maiden at Sandown.

Grid Girl raced on a Good 4 track on the Hillside course that day, with that contest working out well with the third, fifth and eighth all registering subsequent wins.

The daughter of Time Test raced over the same track/trip when beaten less than a length into a third in a Benchmark 64 handicap March 20 via her only subsequent start.

She remains open to improvement and dropping to country level racing, Grid Girl is taken to register her second career win on Thursday night.
