Cormack Plumbing Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)
Pakenham Best Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Kermy
This galloper was second over 1415m at Sale last start behind subsequent 64 winner Captain Spud, and arguably without any on-pace bias early in that meeting, he runs straight past him.
Kermy has natural speed, race fitness and is getting back to his home track here where he has drawn well, so is ticking plenty of boxes.
There looks to be little other speed in the race which should give him every chance to get out the front and bowl along at whatever tempo he wants.
With the perfect conditions for a Maiden coming into a race, he will struggle to find a better race to win than this.
Declan Murphy Takes On Sportsbet BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Pakenham Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Akecheta
This gelding has been very good in two starts since coming from New Zealand, where he gripped on but just missed against the exciting Jimmy Rockford then easily prevailed at his next start in soft conditions.
He now comes up in grade but gets to a small field where all the leading chances are either first-up or looking for more ground, so is well placed once again by the Moody stable.
Akecheta appears the clear leader and with the race fitness edge over his main rivals, he is the one they are going to have to catch.
Being progressive means he deserves to have a chance at this level now and on form, there is zero reason why he cannot measure up.
First Light Racing Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Pakenham Value Bet - Race 8 No. 6 Knife's Edge
Although well in the market last start, he was still good in a race that was dominated by the on-speed runners and once out of trouble (copped a check), he was solid enough through the line.
He carried 63.6kg in that race, now plummeting 5.5kg which sees him now very well weighted in this company.
The issue for Knife's Edge is his winning record with just one from 12, but being in the market so often shows that the ability is most certainly there.
If the four-year-old stays out of trouble and they are making up ground, he looks a brilliant each-way bet on the program.
