Pakenham Tips for March 4

Pakenham Value Bet - Race 3 No. 7 Carrier Buster
This filly was not at her best when favourite around the Moe circuit, before again getting to a tight track and running fifth behind a very well-bred and smart horse named Seguso.
She now gets to Pakenham which is a big plus, allowing her to balance up and work through her gears in the straight rather than having to balance up 100m out from the post.
Carrier Buster draws favourably in barrier five, so she may be able to settle a pair closer in a weaker race, giving her that length advantage than last start.
1200m is ideal third-up, from a stable who is flying (Griffiths & de Kock) and with the experience under the belt, she is the one that the market has missed.

Pakenham Best Bet - Race 6 No. 8 Awkward
This talented three-year-old was too tough in a strong Maiden two back at Geelong before going up in trip to the 1400m where she was unlucky.
Do not read into that run too much as he saw very little room for the entirety of the straight, and was in a very strong race behind Tuvalu, where he was well respected in the market ($5.50).
Awkward is a filly who has improved with more racing, now looking ready for this trip of one mile with Oliver in the saddle.
The key here could be that she draws out on a big track, especially a track that favours those coming wide on the bend as the program goes on.

Pakenham Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 11 Elidi
I am a big fan of this filly because she is a real trier, only beaten by one very good horse last start named Fighting Harada.
Before that, she had the measure of Dunvegan who was around $1.20 to be winning that event, so there is no doubt the ability is there as well as the tenaciousness.
Elidi has the fitness edge over the two main dangers (Toyetic and Viscacha), both horses who may be looking for a touch more ground as their campaign progresses.
This girl will be set to peak in this event, so at the price compared to two first-up horses who will look for more ground, she looks a great play.
