He hasn't finished out of the money in three first-up attempts, which includes a return victory in this grade last campaign and that Dubbo triumph was also recorded over this distance.
While Cumnock has been competitive up to 1400m, keeping the five-year-old to these shorter trips could be the key and he's moved well in two trials ahead of this fresh assignment.
Cumnock was thereabouts in two decent Highway's at the back-end of his last prep, with that form reading very well through Clear Thinking, Tanglewood, Lisztomania and Lonhro's Queen.

Orange Best Bet - Race 5 No. 11 Exotic Dancer
This Gary Portelli-trained filly won two of starts over her first prep, with her biggest defeat coming via strong BM64 at Kembla Grange (winner saluted at Group 3 level last month).
Exotic Dancer had a bit in hand late when taking out decent Warwick Farm heat on March 21 and she broke through over a similar journey via her debut performance last winter.
Olivia Chambers stays in the saddle from the most recent public outing and from barrier five, Exotic Dancer is likely to make her own luck on the speed in what looks a very winnable race.
On-trac Ag Class 1 Showcase Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Orange Value Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Bombelleistic
While he hasn't progressed since landing good bets on debut last August, there's still upside with this lightly raced gelding, who looks suited up to 1400m in Friday's third-up attempt.
Bombelleistic was in the market via his first three appearances and after a wayward effort on return in February, blinkers and a tongue tie were applied ahead of his second-up showing.
He struggled to get into an early rhythm in that Wagga event, but Bombelleistic balanced up late and closed off well (fastest last 800m/600m/400m and 200m of that March 29 race).
Pirtek Orange Gold Cup Tips (Race 7)
Orange Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Steel Blaze
There was aggressive placements with Steel Blaze following a metro BM64 win, with five consecutive stakes level tilts (two Group 1's) and he rounded out that prep in the SA Derby.
It didn't get easier as an early four-year-old, where he contested three Group races mid-prep and the best spring run came third-up when getting home nicely in the Port Macquarie Cup.
For now, these mid-tier country cups is where Steel Blaze is best placed and he arrived to his last third-up event off a similar pattern (1200m fresh followed by a 1600m run second-up).
