Enough people were clearly in the know for her debut assignment at Gosford, as Piggyback was a well backed fav in that provincial maiden despite arriving off two ordinary trials.
There was merit to the win, with the Ciaron Maher-trained filly denying a challenge from a more experienced Subarctic and the first two did clear out in that race.
By Trapeze Artist and out of Wowee, a Group 3 winner over 2500m, Piggyback will get over ground, so resuming at seven furlongs suits and she finds a very weak race here.
Winning Edge Cup Day Showcase Sprint Tips (Race 6)
Orange Roughie - Race 6 No. 4 Blitzar
A sprinter who is effective over any distance in the 1000m-1400m range, this son of Deep Field finished second in the 2022 edition of the Orange Cup Day Showcase Sprint.
Blitzar did lose his way a little over the spring/early summer that followed, but he was working back towards his best last time in, with the highlight being an August victory.
The seven-year-old has a lovely turn-of-foot when right and with his form from latest campaign stacking up well for this affair, he can run a big race first-up at an each-way price.
Ophir Hotel Orange Gold Cup Tips (Race 7)
Orange Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Piraeus
This Richard & Will Freedman-trained galloper is getting costly for punters, however, a combination of a poor ride and race shape was against him last time out at Gosford.
His prior form reads very well for the Orange Cup, with a metro second behind a very progressive Etna Rosso and he followed that with a narrow third behind Double Cherry.
We saw that form stand up at Group 2 level, with Double Cherry placing behind the subsequent Sydney Cup winner and off that performance, Piraeus would take beating here.
Diggermate Orange BM66 Showcase Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Orange Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 De Forerunner
A striking chestnut from the Dean Mirfin stable, De Forerunner had trialled up nicely ahead of his Kembla return, where he whacked away well despite not relishing heavy ground.
Especially given there was only one lead-up trial completed in March, the five-year-old will strip a lot fitter and he'll also be suited back on a firmer surface for Friday's assignment.
His second-up third at metro level behind Cheerful Legend and Boston Rocks last prep is superb reading for this and while there's an unbeaten fav, she does come out of a terrible race.
