Newcastle Best Bet - Race 2 No. 1 Curl Curl

It's of no surprise that Curl Curl returns as a gelding, as while he showed some potential over his first few campaigns, the Paul Perry-trained galloper was very raw.

His best two best performances have both come first-up and over the 900m dash at Newcastle, a track/trip he resumes over here and the Aaron Bullock engagement is another tick.

His lead-up work has been terrific, with the three-year-old following up a third via a quiet Gosford heat to win a Newcastle trial on April 12 and he did bolt in with the latest.

Newcastle Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Sailor

Coming back slightly in trip to 1500m is a slight knock, however, the son of Ocean Park should get this run to suit with good speed engaged and he'll do no work in transit.

Barring a second-up miss in a leader dominated Provincial Qualifier heat at Hawkesbury, Sailor hasn't done a whole wrong this prep and he relished a drop in grade last start.

He completed his second win from three starts at Newcastle via his fourth-up attempt and with the same impost after the claim, he's well placed in a race that isn't much harder.

Newcastle Value Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Three Wise Men

Given the poor overall strike rate, Three Wise Men is an each-way price on Wednesday, but now third-up and stepping to a more suitable distance, he shouldn't be far away.

After being a little one-paced in a fair return over 1400m, the son of Divine Prophet was suited up to a mile last start at Hawkesbury and did catch the eye there when grabbing third.

The gelding was aggressively placed following a Brisbane metro win in 2022, while he then didn't come up last campaign, so there has been some excuses along the way.

Newcastle Roughie - Race 7 No. 6 Fifth Force

Although he's been long odds in all three starts to date, Fifth Force performed well in the first two of those appearances, where he made ground over 1100m and 1200m.

The son of Rubick has been given plenty of time since a start three flop here last winter and going straight to 1250m fresh suits, with the three-year-old arriving off two trials.

He's done enough in both autumn hit-outs, which includes a second behind a talented Call Me Gorgeous at Warwick Farm on April 12 and Rachel King stays aboard for race day.
