Morphettville Roughie - Race 4 No. 12 Alainge

After failing to handle a heavy surface fresh, we had her marked as an improver last Saturday and although she was well held, there was merit to that second-up performance.

Murray Bridge is often a momentum track and finding the rail can work against those settling off the speed, with Alainge held-up from the 300m to the 200m of that seven furlong event.

Off last week's effort, the four-year-old is crying out for a little ground, which she gets on the back-up and her last victory came over this track/trip when third-up in December.

Morphettville Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 A Samurai Mind

He was disappointing first-up, albeit that July 14 attempt may have simply been an intended blowout over an unsuitable sprint distance and the gelding quickly atoned last start.

A Samurai Mind was 1100m to 1600m in his second-up showing on July 17, which is never an easy progression to handle and he bolted in there despite covering ground.

This is harder now out of three-year-old company and to a BM76, however, he's always shown stakes class potential and with 2kg less from his last run, he can go on with it here.

Morphettville Value Bet - Race 7 No. 13 Zarkana

This lightly raced four-year-old improved with racing as 2023 wore on, with Zarkana breaking though at start four when third-up at start four and she was then tipped out.

1000m was too short via her recent return, however, Zarkana finished strongly from off the speed (second-fastest closing splits of the race) and an extra 200m second-up suits.

I've got time for the winner of that July 20 Class 1 and the runner-up has since franked that form, while Zarkana has since won a tick-over trial in a strong heat at Morphettville.

Grand Syndicates Behemoth Stakes Tips (Race 8)

Morphettville Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Air Assault

It's a decent edition of the Behemoth Stakes, although it's tough one for punters, with a resuming See You In Heaven heading the early market off what was just a fair recent trial.

The fav also hasn't raced since last spring, so the late betting could tell the story in regards to her chances and at longer odds, I wouldn't be shocked if Air Assault was specked.

I don't think Air Assault stayed 2000m+ despite recording back-to-back thirds on a SA Derby path and aside from a Victoria Derby flop, he's been very consistent over the journey.

Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 6 Deepfloat Diva

This Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained galloper showed ability early, with a Murray Bridge maiden romp on debut last spring before a metro triumph over 1100m at Morphettville.

Deepfloat Diva was unsuited by the race shape, yet he showed a turn-of-foot to roll Wiggum and at the time, that form was stacking up (Wiggum won in Melbourne via his next start).

The son of Deep Field did enough to hold off a handy and fitter Press Down in a August 1 trial over 1050m, while it's worth forgiving his start three failure (pulled up lame).
