Morphettville Tips May 4

Race 1 - 11:52AM Grand Syndicates Handicap Tips (2004m)

Best: 5. Santelmo Fuego. This is arguably the most open race on the card, with this low affair restricted to 0-66 raters and the fav is a Victorian maiden runner who is still in his first prep.

Santelmo Fuego appear to be ticking over okay, with the eight-year-old covering ground in a brave Oakbank return on March 30 before winning a Murray Bridge trial on April 5.

The veteran was then held-up a key stages over the mile at Morphettville on April 13 and while it was just an even run at Gawler last the, he strips fitter and Todd Pannell stays aboard.

Value: 9. Punchin. Now down in the weights and with a staying run under the belt, Punchin gets his chance on Saturday, especially if he's able to get a soft enough lead.

The son of Outreach has been going well outside of a Murray Bridge performance two starts back, but he bounced back with a third on April 20 in a similar affair to this.

After the 2kg claim of Margaret Collett, he carries 3kg less from that last start performance and that could prove the key here, with a lot of one-paced rivals in behind him.

Race 2 - 12:27PM Sportsbet Bet With Mates Handicap Tips (1050m)

Best: 1. Sweet Baby Boom. An ex-Waterhouse & Bott galloper, Sweet Baby Boom is on SA debut here for the Clarken & O'Shea yar and don't be surprised if the market finds her late.

While her April 18 trial at Balaklava was plain, the blinkers were reapplied 11 days later when taking out of Strathalbyn jump-out in what was a much stronger piece of work.

63.5kg over 1050m is irrelevant and she's bringing decent Sydney form, which includes an easy win over Tashi, who was Group 2 placed behind Chain Of Lightning (Group 1 winner) in March.

Value: 7. Hollerlujah. She never progressed in six subsequent outings following a debut triumph in the VOBIS Gold Rush back in 2022 when prepared by Henry Dwyer.

Hollerlujah is now under the care of John Hickmott & Carrina Riggs and her form Victorian form fell away badly, the four-year-old has been given time since racing last winter.

She travelled well to take out a Murray Bridge jump-out on April 23 and along with arriving off that encouraging piece of work, the Blake Shinn engagement is a big tick.

Race 3 - 1:02PM Hahn Handicap Tips (1050m)

Best: 2. Sunzou. The four-year-old is in his third stable, with Travis Doudle now preparing the son of Zoustar and he's been in good touch for the new yard.

Sunzou was rolled by an impressive Losesomewinmore on SA debut, with that winner rattling off very slick sectionals when saluting via that that April 6 event.

He went one better on April 20, where he held off Volcanic Express, who does have ability and in third was Chosen Blonde, a mare who had arrived there off a winning hat-trick.
Value: 3. Classy Kenny. He's well exposed and the overall strike rate isn't flash, however, Classy Kenny has decent fresh stats and the gelding brings reasonable form from last year.

His placings behind Jacks On Ice, Home Rule, Keep Reading and Chicago Storm all stand out for the BM64 he resumes in on Saturday and Black Shinn takes the ride.

It will be interesting to see what the betting does late, as it's a race that falls away class-wise outside of the first few favs and he's one that could be found at a double figure quote.

Race 4 - 1:37PM Sportsbet Fast Form Adelaide In Autumn Series Final Tips (1504m)

Best: 8. Jazz Affair. The four-year-old put the writing on the wall with a slashing third on return over 1000m, where she overcame trouble to attack the line over an unsuitably short trip.

Jazz Affair has progressed nicely since then, with the mare recording back-to-back victories and that includes a stylish last start triumph when prevailing by almost two lengths.

The extra 100m shouldn't be an issue off that April 20 performance and given the second fav (Easy Campese) has no weight swing in his favour, she does look the obvious here.

Value: 5. Annihilate. This ex-Chris Waller runner has been a savvy pickup for new connections, with the four-year-old recording three wins from nine starts for the Chris Bieg stable.

Annihilate brings a different form line to the April 20 lead-up where the market elects come from, with this galloper an impressive last start winner at Balaklava.

The son of I Am Invincible won by two lengths margin in that April 17 tilt and that followed a forgivable Adelaide return, when he hung in badly in the straight after looming ominously.

Race 5 - 2:12PM Winning Edge Presentations Provincial Pathways Final Tips (1800m)

Best: 1. Sir Kingsford. He's a galloper who has always shown potential and after being tested in handy races over last year's carnival, he broke through at Bordertown before a spell.

Sir Kingsford really started to furnish last prep where he recorded a winning hat-trick over October and November before an end-of-prep run when tried in Melbourne.

He's progressing in the right direction again this time in, with the gelding backing up an excellent fresh run to bolt in by more than four lengths in what is the key form race for this.
Value: 9. Nullify. The Bain & Taylor yard excel with tried gallopers and they've got this recruit ticking over nicely, with the mare arriving here off a third-up win.

The five-year-old has improved with every run in SA, with a fresh effort over 1200m a much better run than it reads and she backed that up with a second at Oakbank.

She hasn't won past 1600m which is an obvious query here, but Nullify has a soft map and if there's an issue with Sir Kingsford, then she's the one who could cash in with 7.5kg less.

Race 6 - 2:47PM Adelaide Galvanising Industries Adelaide Guineas Tips (1600m)

Best: 10. Spirit Of Camelot. This Michael Hickmott-trained filly is a deserving favourite for the Adelaide Guineas, with the three-year-old luckless in the main lead-up.

Spirit Of Camelot contested the H C Nitschke Stakes after breaking through at Ballarat and it was an ugly watch in the Listed affair, as she struggled to get clear from the 500m to the 200m.

She was then forced off heels at the 150m and despite all of that inconvenience, Spirit Of Camelot was only a few strides off saluting, while she shouldn't have any trouble running out a mile.

Value: 11. Angelic Appeal. She was disappointing at Stakes level following a BM70 win on March 2 and while she's gone better in two subsequent runs, the filly has had no luck in the process.

With galloping room earlier in the home straight, Angelic Appeal arguably would've beaten the handy A Samurai Mind on the Parks circuit back on April 6.

She then dropped back to 1400m in the H C Nitschke Stakes and after settling further back in that seven furlong feature, she was the pick of the closers outside of Spirit Of Camelot.

Race 7 - 3:25PM Sportsbet Queen Elizabeth II Cup Tips (2500m)

Best: 3. Aberfeldie Boy. He has also accepted in a 2000m Caulfield event and while that could be the option given the space between runs, this looks a better winning set-up.

Aberfeldie Boy is no stranger to the 2500m at Morphettville, with the son of So You Think having finished third in last year's South Australian Derby and he was a little unlucky there.

It was a three-year old season that could have been, as he was also unfortunate in the VRC Derby and off an eye-catching Easter cup performance, he's found his right race here.
Value: 6. Crimson Vine. The daughter of Redwood is progressing nicely in 2024, with all three of her career wins being recorded this year and the last two of those have been at metro level.

Crimson Vine saluted over this track/trip on March 23, which was a brave on-speed effort and she's been competitive in two subsequent runs despite having to settle for placings.

She was in restricted room last time out on the Parks circuit and with a return to the main track a positive, the mare can roll along and give a sight at big odds.

Race 8 - 4:05PM Thomas Farms South Australian Derby Tips (2500m)

Best: 7. Warmonger. Given he was badly held-up on return at Pakenham and perhaps flattered a shade when getting a suck run second-up, Warmonger may have simply needed last weeks run.

Although he couldn't land bets as fav via that traditional South Australian Derby lead-up. the Victorian visitor still finished off strongly from the rear (fastest closing sectionals of the race).

Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr) prepared Jungle Magnate to win the 2022 South Australian Derby, while they also had the Australasian Oaks winner last week and this is a clear target.

Next Best: 9. A Samurai Mind. This son of Shamus Award is one of the leading local hopes, with A Samurai Mind arriving to this Group 1 staying feature off a narrow second against older rivals on April 20.

He had won two of his first three starts and also picked up late in the run when contesting the Morphettville Guineas on March 11, which was taken out by Air Assault.

Along with having tactical speed to use barrier five, A Samurai Mind is a big striding three-year-old who will appreciate a return to the main circuit and overall, his lead-up has been solid.

Value: 13. Steel Blaze. There were more eye-catching displays in last Saturday's Chairman's Stakes, hence his long price this time around, however, I felt Steel Blaze stuck to the task well in that Group 3.

While he lacked the brilliance of some of his rivals when it mattered, the son of Real Steel kept whacking away and gave the impression that he'll eat up this extra distance.

The New South Wales galloper should run the 2500m on breeding, as he's out of a Group 3 winning mare in Aliyana Tilde and she was placed over two miles in the 2013 Sydney Cup.

Race 9 - 4:40PM David 'DT' Thomas Memorial SA Sprint Series Final Tips (1200m)

Best: 11. Losesomewinmore. While he isn't anywhere near as seasoned as his rivals in this Sprint Series Final, Losesomewinmore is clearly really the most progressive horse in the race.

The Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained four-year-old has improved with every start, which included a slick maiden triumph at start two and he was spelled after that October outing.

He showed tactical versatility when ridden colder over 1000m first-up on April 6, where he rattled home to score in style and in the process, he recorded the fastest last 200m of the entire card.
Value: 5. Starlite Valley. The five-year-old is more effective when able to lead and while that wasn't an option last time, a change of tactics can see that happen here.

From a wide alley on April 20, Starlite Valley was forced to concede to a few drawn inside of her but now jumping from barrier seven, Caitlin Jones should be handlebars down early.

Nothing went right when fresh via the Listed Railway at Oakbank and we're only going back to December to see a stakes placing here, while she won third-up prior to that.
