Morphettville will run a nine race program on April 24 and our free betting tips along with our preview is available below.
Adelaide Racing Carnival - May 1st -15th Handicap Tips (Race 3)
Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Maritana
With now two solid efforts under the belt, this looks really good placement by trainer Julien Welsh, crossing the border for what is a very winnable Benchmark 78 where after the Carleen Hefel claim, he's quite well in with 57.5kg.
Following what was just a fair lead-up trial, it was an okay first-up effort on Mornington Cup Day where he was clearly in need of the hit-out in that fast run six-furlong event and he stepped up to the seven furlongs via the latest attempt at Caulfield.
Maritana was just half a run short in that April 3 performance, but boxed-on well for third with the winner enjoying a lovely run in transit, and here with the early equal favourite Skilled Bunch being well beaten at Oakbank in a 68 last start, finds a race with a decent tail to it.
H C Nitschke Stakes Tips (Race 6)
Morphettville Best Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Annavisto
A winner of three of four attempts in what is now her second racing preparation, there doesn't appear to be many chinks in the armour for this filly who drops 4.5kg for what is arguably a weaker race, albeit still does go interstate for the first time.
By Reliable Man and out of the dam Avisto, a multiple Stakes winner, Annavisto got a soft kill out of the way at Pakenham first-up before venturing to Flemington, where she should've gone back-to-back and the Cross-over Nose Band was applied following that effort.
That gear change has seen her relax and travel much kinder on the speed, twice defeating quite a handy one in Mozzie Monster, who would be close up again in this event with the key threat in Agreeable likely to spot them a start from a tricky draw.
Holdfast Insurance City Of Adelaide Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Morphettville Roughie - Race 7 No. 3 Regalo De Gaetano
An eight-time winner from 23 starts which includes a Listed victory back in October, this five-year-old has been quite underrated over the journey, often going around at decent odds for a galloper that is generally thereabouts.
Following a nice return behind Behemoth over 1100m, a trip that is too sharp, the preparation was geared towards the 2021 All-Star Mile, where despite being the outsider, he wasn't disgraced and you could easily have upgraded him another three or four lengths on a dry deck.
Caitlin Jones takes back the reins on Regalo De Gaetano, a jockey who has been aboard for five of his career wins and with a good record on the Parks circuit (won three of five attempts), he can camp off a good speed then blend in late with a pinch of luck.
Breeders' Stakes Tips (To be run on the Morphettville Main Track) (Race 8)
Morphettville Value Bet - Race 8 No. 9 Isles Of Avalon
Via the Listed Dequetteville Stakes on April 10, the key lead-up for Saturday's Group Three Breeders' Stakes, this filly made her debut and was heavily supported late ($8.00-$5.00) ahead of that 1050m assignment.
Barrier six ultimately proved problematic in that event considering the speed that was drawn inside of her, which forced Isles Of Avalon further back and tracking wider that they'd of liked (swap the runs with the winner Cloudy and you get a different result).
Racing in the famous Makybe Diva silks for owner/breeder Tony Santic, the daughter of boom sire Toronado will be partnered by star country NSW hoop Blaike McDougall, who should be riding much more often at Metropolitan level, and he has gate two at his disposal on Saturday.
