Morphettville will run a nine race program on April 17 and our free betting tips along with our preview is available below.
Happy 90th Birthday Marj Kettapellar Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Morphettville Best Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Don'tdreamit'sover
There were some excuses for this honest gelding two starts start when sent out as a $7 chance in the Listed Birthday Cup, a feature that he was briefly held-up in before trying to work home on the inside which was against the pattern of that event.
Trainer Michael Hickmott opted to freshen-up this import and it worked a treat with Don'tdreamit'sover saluting as one of our best bets on the March 20 program, where he was strong through the line despite covering ground with the stable electing to keep him on the fresh side once again.
Although he's technically up in grade here, with good form around Exalted Traveller and Territory Titan, who he defeated in that last attempt, I'm not convinced this is any harder, and from a low draw against well exposed rivals, he should get every chance.
Redelva Stakes Tips (Race 6)
Morphettville Favourite - Race 6 No. 1 Instant Celebrity
It's a big Saturday of racing around the whole country and while this is perhaps somewhat of a left field take, this returning filly from the powerful Phillip Stokes yard is the one I'm about most looking forward to watching.
From what has been a moderate three-year-old crop to date, the two from last Spring that piqued my interest going forward as real X factor types were the talented Mo'unga and from a sprinting perspective, Instant Celebrity, with both gallopers seemingly doing it all on ability.
While she tasted defeat for the first time in the Thousand Guineas, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt simply didn't run out a strong mile, but class took her a long way and the April 9 trial when coasting past seasoned Group winning sprinter Kemalpasa was superb.
R N Irwin Stakes Tips (Race 8)
Morphettville Value Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Savatoxl
Winning eight of his first 10 ten starts when campaigning for Alice Springs trainer Will Savage, this gelding has now proven himself away from the dirt tracks of the Northern Territory, saluting twice at the back-end of his last preparation in Adelaide.
Now under the care of Tony & Calvin McEvoy, Savatoxl arrived off two campaigns up North, which is never easy and although it took the new yard a little time to work him out, taking the winkers off in November and keeping him to the sprint trips may have been the key.
Off a good spell and now resuming officially for the first time down south, this could well be the time for this speedy five-year-old to cash in, with much of his opposition either out of form or have further autumn targets in mind.
TAB Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 7 Wings Of Pastrami
She was super competitive at stakes-level throughout last autumn when only a stride off a Listed victory second-up and then was beaten just over two lengths in the Group One Australasian Oaks at the back-end of that preparation.
While the mare was a little disappointing in the Spring, it's looked a juggling act for connections working out what her preferred distance is, as although she looked a genuine mile to 2000m galloper as a three-year-old, may just be better suited to fast run six or seven-furlong events.
Wings Of Pastrami does need to break a drought now and down on the minimum after the smart Jamie Opperman claim, who was aboard for a soft trial win on April 4, these are races she needs to be saluting in if a return to Stakes company is on the cards later this campaign.
