Morphettville will run a nine race program on April 10 and our free betting tips along with our preview is available below.
Happy 90th Birthday Colin Wilson Handicap Tips (Race 1)
Morphettville Best Bet - Race 1 No. 6 Calypso Reign
While Grand Scholar is the one to beat if she can recapture her old form, the favourite is returning off two failed preparations and neither of the Oakbank trials in the lead-up to this return were breathtaking, so going the way of this four-year-old.
Following a slick first-up win over the 1000m at Murray Bridge, Calypso Reign was freshened-up before a good closing effort in a leader dominated race behind Little Rich Boy and Mileva (Listed winner next start) and defeated Toff Love in the process, a dominant Oakbank winner last Saturday.
After being held-up prior to a midfield finish in the Manihi Classic on March 27, he did have a jump out at Strathalbyn on Tuesday which should have him spot on for this 1200m assignment, carrying only 54.5kg despite dropping in grade.
TAB Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 5 Sky Horse
The Maher & Eustace stable clearly had an opinion of Sky Horse in her first racing preparation where after recording back-to-back victories in Victoria, was sent north to contest some fillies features over last year's Queensland Winter Carnival and was competitive twice before being tipped out,
By Tavistock and out of The Pearler, a listed winning miler, this mare was given plenty of time and there may have been a setback following just an even return at Caulfield in January, with a similar performance at Sandown where she was five weeks between runs.
Despite going down as favourite via her latest attempt, it was an improved effort for third on the worst part of that Moonee Valley track and the form has been franked from that March 19 event with the first two home in Green Ivy and Rebel Racer both winning their next starts.
Happy 60th Birthday Steve Hill Handicap (Race 3)
Morphettville Roughie - Race 3 No. 3 Tradewind
While he was admittedly poor first-up on the Parks circuit, this colt certainly had excuses, dropping out after racing three-wide on the speed but draws much kinder this Saturday in barrier two, where he can importantly get that early cover.
There wasn't much to fault in the first racing campaign for Tradewind, who was a brilliant winner at start two over Echoes In Eternity (competitive in Melbourne before winning three of her next four starts in Adelaide) and rounded out the preparation with an upset victory when crossing the border.
As we saw when he took out the $175,000 VOBIS Gold Eureka Stockade, he was saved for that one dash late after getting a soft run in transit and drawing for that run on Saturday, is a big price in an open race.
Port Adelaide Guineas Tips (Race 7)
Morphettville Value Bet - Race 7 No. 5 Royal Mile
Lee Creek has a nice galloper on his hands here with Royal Mile, a three-year-old that is still quite raw but bolted in via his first city appearance on March 27 at good odds as our Value Bet on that Morphettville program.
A half-brother to Blazing Rebel who didn't break his Maiden until stepping up past 10 furlongs, the son of Danerich is sharper than his sibling, however, does look as though he'll prosper over a mile or even a shade further, so the 1800m here shouldn't pull him up.
This is obviously tougher at stakes level but this big striding gelding is hard fit and building a good association with gun apprentice Jamie Opperman, he has shown the ability to sprint off any tempo and settling handy again from a good draw, I didn't see a reason to jump off at a decent quote.
