Morphettville Tips February 20
Pike & Joyce Handicap Tips (Race 1)
Morphettville Value Bet - Race 1 No. 1 Dexter You Devil
Following a return in the Listed Christmas Handicap when finding the 1200m too sharp in a leader dominated affair, Dexter You Devil attempted the 1400m second-up was hard to miss in an eye-catching display from the rear.
Sustaining a long and wide run, this very consistent galloper didn't have any opposition taking him into the race, which adds more merit to the performance and while there's no doubting the reasoning for Ritratto's credentials here off the February 6 win, this gelding was the only runner inroads from the rear in that event.
A stakes performer over his last few campaigns, he has a big weight swing on that favourite from that last start contest and with ideally a little more pressure on Ritratto, this might be the forgotten about galloper and is a fair price for a small risk/outlay.
Zilzie Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Morphettville Each-Way Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Grinzinger Star
This ex-Danny O'Brien galloper is now set to have his third start for new trainer Karen Byrnes and the first-up run over six furlongs at Murray Bridge, was effectively no more than another barrier trial over a trip that was too sharp.
He did go straight from 1200m straight to 1600m second-up, and although certainly not disgraced in an eventual fourth-place finish, was left flat-footed when the hard-fit leader Black Sail kicked for home, but he can improve in an event that is a little weaker overall.
Grinzinger Star is up in the weights but strips fitter and now gets the services of gun jockey Todd Pannell, who won't spend a penny from barrier one and off a more of a rolling tempo over this extra furlong, he's an each-way chance.
Terry Howe Printing Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Morphettville Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Tullys Gold
It's a tough Morphettville meeting for a standout but off a little spell and with a very consistent record to date, this four-year-old is well placed fresh in what is an easier assignment compared to what he was contesting at the back-end of his last preparation.
The fourth-place finish when at the end of his campaign was his first time finishing outside the quinella, and he was beaten just over a length on a soft track behind Ice Ghost who is rated above anything in this field while Tony's Reward (BM68 winner last week) and the handy Taken Off (bolted in to win his next two starts) filled the placings.
That form does read very well for this Benchmark 64 where he can spear straight to the front under South Australia's leading rider Jessica Eaton and with the ability to sustain a run on a good speed over six furlongs, he should take some catching.
Furphy Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 1 Ice Ghost
This five-year-old isn't necessarily the easiest runner to catch but with a very consistent body of work over his last two campaigns, he's entitled to be the second favourite in this event and if they're able to run on, this versatile grey will start shorter.
With a low enough rating at 70 and the ability to be competitive in any distance range from 1000m-1600m, trainer Gordon Richards has plenty of options for Ice Ghost who goes straight to the mile from 1200m, but there is good fitness base and off the honest second to Taken Off, he did want a little further.
The upside could all well be with the lightly raced favourite Unlaced who was dominant second-up, however, she won't be short on challengers up front and as a more effective galloper when ridden a little colder, this grey can storm home if the conditions allow.

Dexter You Devil (Race 1) and Grinzinger Star (Race 5) both make some appeal at their early prices.
