Mornington Tips June 10

Quayclean Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Mornington Roughie - Race 1 No. 11 Tartan Belle

Trainer Jason Warren is double-handed here with the pick having made two starts to date.

The first of those saw her finish down the field when beaten over four-and-a-half-lengths in a 1200m maiden at Cranbourne at the start of last month.

The pick was slowly away on that occasion and was again slow to start when registering an improved effort at Sale May 29.

The daughter of Smart Missile was beaten three lengths into fourth when racing on a good 4 track at Sale and she tackles a wet track for the first time here.

The blinkers worn for the first time at Sale are retained for this event and she is more experienced than all bar one of her rivals in this event.

Matthew Cartwright’s mount races off bottom weight here and she may prove capable of delivering a surprise success on her return to 1200m.

Home & Acreage Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Mornington Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 4 The Jester’s Son

The gelding placed in maiden company in each of his first three starts this prep including when runner-up over 1500m here at the end of March.

That effort came on a good 4 track and he encountered similar conditions when getting off the mark over the same distance at Ballarat next time.

The pick registered a victory by over two lengths when overcoming a slow start that day with that race producing a number of subsequent winners.

Those winners include the selection who made his first start over this distance a winning one when taking out a Restricted 64 handicap at Pakenham May 16.

The runner-up in that event has registered a victory subsequently with the pick having been freshened since that effort.

Ben, JD & Will Hayes’ inmate has a good barrier here and he looks ready for this step up in class with further improvement expected.

Jim Marconi Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Mornington Value Bet - Race 5 No. 10 Bifrost

The Emma-Lee & David Browne team can boast an impressive 50% strike-rate (4/8) at this venue in the last twelve months.

The five-year-old has demonstrated good form for them in recent starts including when third over 1100m at Flemington on his penultimate outing.

The selection lost out by one-and-a-half-lengths when racing in a metro Benchmark 70 handicap that day finishing strongly having ridden from off the pace.

The gelding raced on a soft 7 track at Flemington and again encountered wet conditions, a soft 5 when racing at Cranbourne May 24.

The pick finished one place better when dropped to 1000m for a Benchmark 64 handicap that day and he has a wide barrier in this event.

That wide barrier shouldn’t pose too many issues given the son of Turn Me Loose’s hold up style of racing and he looks value to win for the first time this prep.

Mercedes Benz Mornington Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Mornington Best Bet - Race 7 No. 8 Sioux Spirit

A $52,500 purchase as a yearling at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in 2022 the filly demonstrated plenty of ability in her two jump outs before debuting at Geelong.

The selection came home over a length clear of her rivals when starting a short priced favourite for a 1112m maiden held on a soft 5 track on that day.

The three-year-old was stepped up to metro level racing when runner-up in a big field 1100m contest at Flemington May 18 on her only subsequent start.

The pick lost out by less than one-and-a-half-length when contesting a Benchmark 70 event held on a soft 7 track that day and she drops in grade here.

Jerome Hunter’s representative has a good barrier six from the rail and she is reunited with Craig Williams for this contest.

The daughter of Sioux Nation should have no issues with the extra distance here and with improvement expected she is taken to return to winning ways.
