Moe Tips May 13
Good Land Brewing Maiden Plate (Race 1)
Moe Best Best – Race 1 No. 1 Chevalier du Fau
The French-bred gelding showed good form in maiden company in his first spell including when finishing third in a 2440m maiden plate event on a good 4 track at Geelong in November. Spelled following that effort the pick returned in 2023 with a third when beaten just over four lengths in a 1500m maiden at Bendigo at the end of last month.
Returning to soft going for that Bendigo effort the four-year-old performed well with the winner making all the running and the second boosting the form with a victory subsequently.
The return to middle-distances is in the son of Le Havre’s favour while he is expected to race just behind the pace with Iffland likely to go from the front.
Billy Egan, on board last time out, keeps the ride and the pair looks capable of saluting for the Patrick Payne stable.
RMBL Investments Rising Stars Race (Race 5)
Moe Value Bet – Race 5 No. 5 Luv A Duck
The pace situation in this 14-runner contest could see Luv A Duck get loose on the lead under Laura Lafferty.
The pick raced close to the speed when delivering a narrow victory in a Benchmark 58 event over 1600m on a good 4 track at Bairnsdale back in March.
Since that effort the four-year-old has shown up well in a couple of starts on a soft 6 track including when attracting the attention of the stewards when finishing fourth at Mornington last month.
The four-year-old heads into this on the back of a good second when racing at this Benchmark 58 level when forced to race wide without cover back at Bairnsdale at the start of this month. A good barrier in five is a positive and the selection is taken to deliver a third career win.
Rookies Pizzeria 0-64 Handicap (Race 7)
Moe Next Best – Race 7 No. 2 Spirited Writings
The son of Written Tycoon showed plenty of ability when debuting with a close second in a maiden plate over 1000m at Werribee back in December and while that form could be working out better, the winner that day Beefeaters has registered a success subsequently.
The pick was spelled following that effort and that decision paid dividends with the gelding appearing to appreciate the step up in distance when winning over 1105m at Sale last month.
The three-year-old came home nearly one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals on that occasion and the extra 95m he is set to tackle here is expected to suit.
While the pick is untested on the soft 7 going forecast, he is less exposed than his rivals and he looks capable of completing a double with Jamie Mott in the saddle.
Ladbroke It! BM64 Handicap (Race 8)
Moe Roughie – Race 8 No. 7 Intisar
The Michael Huglin-trained filly is lightly-raced having made just the six previous racecourse appearances and those efforts including a two wins on a good 4 track last spell, most recently when taking out a Benchmark 58 event over 1200m at Yarra Glen December 23.
The last of seven at Sandown Lakeside in this Benchmark 64 grade subsequently is better than it looks at face value given she was beaten just a length on her penultimate outing.
While the pick was beaten over eight lengths here on a heavy 9 track in June last year on her only previous start on a wet track, she did finish fourth that day and has a good first-up record.
Dakotah Keane takes a valuable four kilograms off and having drawn the rail here may prove capable of springing an upset.
