This weekend provides another major lead up race towards the 2YO Magic Millions Classic on January 16 as a couple of talented juveniles do battle over 1200m.

Headed in the market by yet another talented colt out of the Chris Waller yard, Ranch Hand is the short priced favourite for the race ahead of Gleneagles.

Speed Map

Tony and Maddysen Sears impressive debut winner Illiciate Affairs looks the likely leader in the race, with Ain’t She Lovely and Portabello Road likely to also push forward from wide gates. After travelling smartly behind the speed on debut at Warwick Farm, race favourite Ranch Hand has drawn perfectly in barrier four to enjoy a similar run once again.

Blue Diamond winning trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young boast the x-factor in the race in Gleneagles, however, will have to overcome a tough barrier after drawing the widest of eleven. After an outstanding trial where he defeated Ranch Hand, the colt by Capitalist looked smart when bursting through a gap at the trials, however, was unlucky second on debut in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic.

Magic Millions QTIS 2YO Handicap Best Bet - Ranch Hand

In first markets we were keen to take on the hot favourite, however, after drawing barrier four, Chris Waller trained Ranch Hand is set to enjoy all favours in the run.

A $260,000 purchase from the 2020 Magic Millions Sales, the colt by Fastnet Rock settled beautifully in the box seat before James McDonald produced him at the turn, checking smartly off heels before putting the race to bed.

Crunched from $201 - $17 with Sportsbet for the Magic Millions, Ranch Hand defeated Mura Mura by over three-lengths, with the Snowden trained filly boasting a third placing in the Kirkham and Golden Gift leading into the race.

Drawn to land perfectly behind the speed from barrier four, Nash Rawiller has made the trek up to Brisbane to ride Ranch Hand in the Magic Millions and if he replicates his debut performance, will be winning on Saturday and winning well.

Magic Millions QTIS 2YO Handicap Next Best - Gleneagles

Following an eye catching trial trial at Randwick, Gleneagles was very unlucky on debut when forced to endure an impeded run in transit and will once again enjoy few favours from barrier eleven.

Produced by the 2020 Blue Diamond winning stable, the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young trained colt by Capitalist was a $500,000 yearling purchase and will be looking to emulate his famous sire who took out the 2016 2YO Magic Millions Classic on his way to winning the Golden Slipper that year.

Settling behind the speed in his trial, Tim Clark gave Gleneagles a slight nudge in the straight as he exploded to win the trial in impressive fashion, defeating Ranch Hand in the process.

Unlucky on debut in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic when struggling to find clear running room, Luke Currie will have a task set out for him once again from barrier eleven and if he can secure a good run in transit, can give the favourite a scare.

Verdict

Ranch Hand will be extremely hard to beat from a gun draw in barrier four on Saturday.

Gleneagles looms as the only real danger to the favourite, but after drawing barrier eleven will need luck in running.
