Lismore Tips February 9
LISMORE PAINT CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE Tips (Race 1)
Lismore Best Bet - Race 1 No. 9 Tolerate
Trainer Matthew Dunn has prepared six winners at a strike of 28.6% at Lismore over the last 12 months and he'll be looking to build on that record early on the February 9 meeting with this four-year-old that is aiming to atone for a first-up defeat at a very short quote.
By So You Think and out of the dam Bonanova (Group One winning miler), it is surprising they elected resume over the 800m scamper at Ipswich with Tolerate who although had her chance if good enough, just never balanced up over that journey and was only narrowly defeated with a big space to third.
Her trial win prior to that resumption was excellent and stepping up to the 1110m second-up with senior jockey Matthew McGuren now taking the reins, she finds a race that is no harder and off her NSW Provincial form last winter, should be winning this.
VIVA RACING CLASS 1 HANDICAP Tips (Race 6)
Lismore Value Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Perfect Pony
The winning strike rate is poor but having done most of his racing in a much tougher Victorian jurisdiction, this son of Americain is much better placed on the NSW country circuit and with a very low rating, trainer Leo Clapham can get a few more wins out of him.
After finding the 1000m much too sharp in his stable debut behind a slick winner in Parksville, Perfect Pony was set a big ask of stepping straight to the 1700m second-up where although he was safely held, there was enough merit in the midfield finish to indicate he could be competitive in what's a very modest Class 1 here.
We only need to go four runs back to find this six-year-old defeating home Spring Break (won his Maiden before a fourth-place finish in a Sandown 64) and Captain Canuck (bolted in via a Moonee Valley Maiden at his next start) which is certainly good enough form for this.
