Launceston Tips October 6

The Examiner Benchmark 62 Hcp Tips (Race 4)

Launceston Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Coronation Keith

The Puissance de Lune progeny are mostly slow maturing, so there should be plenty more wins in store for this lightly raced five-year-old who won two of three in his initial prep and is first-up here.

Coronation Keath made a mess of his rivals on debut over the 1100m at Launceston, before finishing third as a well backed favourite behind the handy And Beyond, a galloper that has won six from seven.

Finishing that campaign with a win over seven furlongs, this gelding was superb in a lead-up trial on September 28 and from a low draw in what isn't a deep race, he's well placed to resume with a win.

Launceston Value Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Le Cadeau

This gelding was one of the better two-year-old's in Tasmania over his first campaign, winning three races in a prep that culminated with victory in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

While he was far from disgraced in four subsequent outings as a three-year-old, Le Cadeau just never quite went on with it, however, his return run on September 26 indicates he's come back in good order.

Although up in grade now off that eye-catching third at Devonport, he plummets in the weights and with speed engaged in this field, Bulent Muchu may just get the suck through late from a low draw.

Launceston Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 3 Weldborough

Despite going up in weight now off a nice second-up victory at Class 1 level, this four-year-old does look to have some upside, whereas the most of his rivals here are right at their ceiling via BM62 grade.

Off a nice first-up victory last December, Weldborough looked a runner that might figure in some of the three-year-old features, but wasn't quite there yet, mixing his form throughout much of that second prep.

With a nice first-up effort also under the belt over an unsuitable trip early in September, this gelding is starting to show some consistency and third-up, he's found another very winnable race.

Verdict

Coronation Keith won two of three in his first prep and has trialled up strongly ahead of his return in Race 4 from Launceston.

Weldborough can progress further in Race 7 and off a nice fresh run, Le Cadeau is a good each-way chance in Race 5.
