Schweppes Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 3)
Ipswich Value Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Crackenthorpe
The New Zealand-bred showed little in two starts for Mitchell Beer last season including when last of nine over 1300m at Kembla Grange on debut in April.
An eighth of eleven stepped up to 1600m at the same venue the following month marked his final start prior to joining current trainer Leanne Hartley.
The four-year-old registered a solid effort when finishing runner-up in a 1050m barrier trial on his first public appearance for Hartley at Beaudesert last month.
The selection demonstrated significant improvement on his return to action finishing third despite jumping at $81 for a 1000m maiden at Sunshine Coast two weeks ago.
The gelding finished strongly having been ridden cold that day with the seventh home winning subsequently.
While he has a couple of lengths to find with Vesper Lynd, who raced prominently on that occasion he remains open to improvement and looks value to register his first victory.
Red Bull Australia Benchmark 68 Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 New Maher
Paul Wallace’s gelding is a proven soft ground performer with two of his four previous wins having come in wet conditions.
Those wins include a length success when racing on a soft 6 track in a 1500m Class 1 handicap at Warwick in July last year.
That effort marked his final start last prep with the gelding breaking through for his first success this time around when saluting third up at Toowoomba last month.
The pick came home four-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals when contesting a 1625m Benchmark 65 handicap held on a soft 7 surface.
The five-year-old duly followed up over the same track and trip two weeks later when encountering much quicker going.
The son of Al Maher delivered a comfortable victory by nearly two lengths having raced from mid-division that day with a wide barrier the only real negative here.
Jasper Franklin takes a valuable three-kilogram’s off the selections back and stepping up to metro-level racing he is taken to complete a hat-trick.
Gordon’s Gin Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Ipswich Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Zinotar
The four-year-old registered top three finishes in each of his first three starts this prep including when runner-up in a 1350m maiden here in November.
The gelding was beaten one-and-a-half-lengths when racing on a good 4 track that day and went on to finish runner-up on a heavy 10 at Sunshine Coast next time.
That Sunshine Coast effort came on the pick’s first attempt at 1600m while he broke through for his first win at the same venue two weeks later.
The son of Tarzino jumped as a short-priced favourite for an 1800m held on a good 4 track last time and he came home a length clear of his nearest pursuer.
The selection was switched to the outside in the straight prior to delivering a comfortable victory that day and he has a good barrier four from the rail here.
James Orman is a positive jockey booking here and with the drop back to 1690m no issue his mount is taken to complete a double.
Imperial Racing Benchmark 70 Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Ipswich Roughie - Race 9 No. 4 Kavak
The gelding has been out of form so far this season including in two starts since joining current handler Ryan Tyrell.
The pick has finished last on each occasion including when jumping at triple figure odds for a 1110m Benchmark 78 handicap at Doomben in November.
The seven-year-old was beaten just over eight lengths that day and he was beaten by the same margin in a 1000m Benchmark 75 handicap at Sunshine Coast last month.
The son of Deep Field delivered an improved effort in an 850m barrier trial at Gold Coast at the end of last month however and he gets a welcome drop in grade for this contest.
Barrier eight shouldn’t prove an issue in this contest with the return to this track a big positive having won twice and placed third once from four starts here.
Those starts include a win over 1100m on a wet track in March last year and returning to this venue he may prove capable of surprising.
