Ipswich Tips December 6
TAB Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)
Ipswich Value Bet - Race 2 No. 1 Lucky Briz
The gelding finished unplaced in both starts last season, including on debut when fifth of ten an 860m maiden at Gatton in January.
Lucky Briz followed that up with a seventh when beaten just under two-and-a-half-lengths over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast in early February.
Both of those efforts came on a Good 4 tracks and having been forced to race wide from outside barriers on each occasion, he can be forgiven those efforts.
The five-year-old has changed stables in the interim, having joined the John Hubbard team since that Sunshine Coast effort.
The son of Adelaide arrives here fresh and jumping from an inside alley, he may prove capable of springing an upset.
Seven Ratings Band 0-62 Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 5 Skater
The four-year-old is a dual winner from five starts this prep, including when delivering a near two-length victory when making all in a 1650m contest at Toowoomba in September.
The mare raced in a Benchmark 60 handicap that day and duly put a disappointing effort over 1890m there behind her when saluting at Gatton in October.
That Gatton success saw Skater overcome a wide barrier to deliver a half-length triumph in a 1600m Benchmark 60 handicap.
Damien Thornton, on board at Gatton , returns to the saddle here, having missed her fourth over the same track/trip on November 12.
She has been freshened since that latest effort and she can provide trainers Corey & Kylie Geran, on the mark with two victories already in December with a winner here.
Schweppes Class 3 Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Ipswich Roughie - Race 6 No. 1 Billy’s Bro
The gelding had a good time of it last season when winning twice, including by just under half-a-length in a course and distance contest in May.
That victory came when contesting a Class 2 handicap and he showed that he could compete in this Class 3 company when fourth over 1350m in a set weights event at Doomben the following month.
The five-year-old was spelled following that effort and the drop to provincial racing is a positive in this event.
Billy's Bro won on the forecast Soft 5 surface at Sunshine Coast just over a year ago, while he prepped for this with a good second in a Doomben barrier trial last month.
The Chris Meagher-trained gelding has won first up in the past and looks value to resume with a victory here.
Sammut Bulow Class 6 Plate Tips (Race 7)
Ipswich Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Richon
Peter Robl has his horses in great form at present, with the trainer saddling four winners from his last 12 runners.
In addition to those winners, Robl has been represented by six placed horses and Richon's last start victory at Eagle Farm was among the wins.
That Eagle Farm success saw the gelding register his first wet track success when delivering a half-length success in a Class 5 handicap over 1200m on a Soft 5.
Richon jumped from barrier nine on that occasion and he should prove capable of getting across from his wide alley in 12 here, with his main pace rival Jamaican Rumba jumping from barrier nine.
The drop back in distance should prove no issue for the four-year-old, who looks capable of completing a hat-trick won Wednesday.
