Hatton Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Chater Pins
Sent for spell following a disappointing effort when coming down to Class 4 level on February 3 was this five-year-old from the David Hayes stable who then stuck on well when resuming over 1200m on April 8.
Despite finding the six furlongs a little sharp on that occasion, he was able to rally late on the rails to just miss a placing under Alexis Badel. who stays aboard on Wednesday and was in the saddle via an April 20 trial.
Chater Pins did catch the eye in that 1200m heat on the Sha Tin All Weather circuit, finishing off strongly for third and over a more suitable distance this evening, can figure at an each-way price.
Conduit Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Happy Valley Roughie - Race 7 No. 4 Xponetial
In a very competitive event, this gelding is worth some thought at a longer price now with the in-form Blake Shinn taking the reins, who has ridden six winners in April at a strike rate of 22%.
A classy winner over this track/trip and grade last July with a 60.5kg impost, Xponetial struggled to find form in the new season when contesting Class 3 sprints, coming back in grade on January 31 where he was three-wide the trip before tiring late.
With more tough runs and wide barriers in three subsequent efforts, not much has gone his way in recent outings and if Shinn can find some cover, then he's certainly capable enough in this grade off a 56kg mark.
Breezy Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Helene Wisdom Star
Trainer Tony Cruz and champion jockey Joao Moreira strike at 25% when combining this season and they get a good chance to build further on that via the penultimate at Happy Valley with this four-year-old who is still looking for his first Hong Kong victory.
Following an eye catching third on December 9 in a stronger Class 3 to what he faces here, not much has gone the way of Helene Wisdom Star since then, where he's mainly been plagued by wide gates although has still been thereabouts in all runs.
He was again honest on April 8 when chasing Telecom Fighters, who pinched too big a break with a low weight but ideally from a low draw in two, we can see this gelding land a few pairs closer and give himself every chance with a kinder run in transit.
Babington Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 9 No. 4 Brilliant Fortune
A very impressive Australian debut winner back in December, 2019 when competing as 'Mir' was this son of Deep Field who shouldn't be far away now with two strong performances under his belt in March.
Given his main threats are Super Axiom (failed in two Class 3 attempts) and Larson (hasn't won in nearly 12 months), this looks a much easier assignment for Brilliant Fortune after running into the smart and unbeaten Winner Method on March 28.
Having teamed up for 36 winners over the last 12 months at a strike rate of 24.8%, the Joao Moreira and Caspar Fownes combination is a formidable one and up on the speed in the last from Happy Valley, this gelding is the one to beat.
